Kathleen (Marion) Lowe Coeur d’Alene

Service for Kathleen (Marion) Lowe, 85, will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at English Funeral Chapel in Coeur d’Alene.

Mrs. Lowe, who was born in New York City, died Saturday.

She moved to Coeur d’Alene shortly after World War II and was a homemaker.

Her husband, Charles, died in 1996.

Survivors include a brother, LeRoy Lum of Topeka, Kan.; and several nieces and nephews.

Lloyd French Princeton, Idaho

Viewing for Lloyd D. French, 52, will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today at Short’s Funeral Chapel in Moscow. Service will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at the Princeton Church of the Nazarene. Mr. French, who was born in Moscow, died Thursday in a tree-felling accident near his home.

He attended schools in Plummer, Idaho, before moving to Spokane and graduating from Mead High School.

Mr. French returned to the Moscow area and worked as a farmhand and was also a heavy equipment operator and truck driver.

He moved to Princeton in 1971 and was a farmer and truck driver as well as a millwright at Ownbey Lumber Co., and worked for Crites Warehouse in Moscow.

Mr. French was a self-employed logger and a member of the Princeton Church of the Nazarene and the Classic Chevy International Club. He taught 4-H for 10 years and was active in the Boy Scouts of America Troop 358.

Mr. French was a member of the Idaho Farm Bureau, serving as state director for eight years and also served as forestry chairman for the University of Idaho Forestry Board.

Survivors include his wife, Marjorie; two sons, Forrest and Tom French, both of Princeton; a daughter, Valorie Stricklin of Deary, Idaho; his parents, Ben and Bonnie French of Deer Park; and two brothers, Russell French of Deer Park and Larry French of Montana.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Potlatch Ambulance Fund or Potlatch High School scholarship fund.

Dwight Skinner Coeur d’Alene

Private family service for Dwight D. Skinner Sr., 75, will be held later. English Funeral Chapel in Coeur d’Alene is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Skinner, who was born in Nebraska, died Friday.

He grew up in Spirit Lake and joined the Coast Guard after high school.

Mr. Skinner returned to Coeur d’Alene in 1946 and worked as a postal carrier, retiring in 1977.

He was a member of the Coeur d’Alene Eagles and Elks lodges, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion.

His wife, Dorothy, died in 1997.

Survivors include a son, Dwight Skinner Jr. of Coeur d’Alene; a daughter, Susan Swafford of Post Falls; a brother, Harold Skinner of Spokane; and a sister, Doyne McKinney of Arizona.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of North Idaho.

Marian Cady Spokane

Service for Marian J. Cady, 74, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Riplinger Funeral Home. Private burial will follow at Fairmount Memorial Park.

Mrs. Cady, a 72-year resident of Spokane, died Saturday.

She was born in Kendrick, Idaho, and was a homemaker.

Mrs. Cady was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 51 Auxiliary, the Ladies of the Moose in Loon Lake and the Garden Club.

Her husband, John Cady, died in 1968.

Survivors include a son, Steven Cady of Spokane; a brother, Jack Pearson of Everett; a sister, Donna Berger of Spokane; and two grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association of Washington.

LaReign Dunning Spokane

Funeral Mass for LaReign E. Dunning, 88, will be at 10 a.m. today at St. Augustine Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Dunning, a lifetime Spokane resident, died Friday.

She graduated from Holy Names Academy and Kinman Business University.

Mrs. Dunning was a homemaker and a member of St. Augustine Parish, St. Monica’s Guild and the Spokane Country Club.

Her husband, Richard, died in 1976.

Survivors include two sons, Dick Dunning of Spokane and George Dunning of Idaho; a sister, Eleanor Welch of Minnesota; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Poor Clare Nuns.

Marion ‘Tude’ Hemingway Garfield, Wash.

Service for Marion V. “Tude” Hemingway, 81, will be at 11 a.m. today at Kramer Funeral Home in Palouse, Wash. Burial will follow at Garfield Cemetery.

Mrs. Hemingway, a lifetime Garfield resident, died Friday.

She graduated from Garfield High School and also from Kinman Business University.

Mrs. Hemingway worked for a few years at Washburn-Wilson Seed Company in Moscow, Idaho.

In 1940 she married Herbert Hemingway in Garfield and together they farmed south of Garfield.

She was a member of the Eureka Chapter No. 92 Order of the Eastern Star, Daughters of the Nile and the El Karnak Temple No. 6, the Down One Bridge Club and the Little Old Ladies Club in Garfield.

Her husband died in 1975.

Survivors include a son, Mark Hemingway of Garfield; a daughter, Linda Anderson of Clackamas, Ore.; and four grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children.

Wayne McCormack Spokane

Visitation for Wayne Austin McCormack, 71, will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. today and Wednesday at Hennessey Valley Funeral Home. No service will be held at his request.

Mr. McCormack, who was born in Galchutt, N.D., died Wednesday.

He served in the Army and worked as a heavy equipment repairman for companies in Spokane.

Mr. McCormack was a 40-year Spokane resident and a member of the Disabled American Veterans, the American Legion and the National Rifle Association.

Survivors include a son, Mike McCormack of Bremerton; a daughter, Gail Satak of St. Paul, Minn.; his mother, Alice Friday of St. Paul; a brother, Donald Friday of Connecticut; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 6.

Elaine Terhaar Spokane

Funeral Mass for Elaine M. Terhaar, 69, was Monday at St. John Vianney Catholic Church. Burial followed at St. Joseph’s Cemetery.

Mrs. Terhaar, a lifetime Spokane resident, died Thursday.

She graduated in 1951 from Washington State University and worked as a registered pharmacist.

Mrs. Terhaar was a member of St. John Vianney Catholic Church.

Survivors include her husband of 48 years, Frank; three sons, Daniel and Joe Terhaar both of Spokane, and Michael Terhaar of Minneapolis; three daughters, Paula Terhaar of Seattle, and Phoebe and Anna Terhaar, both of Issaquah, Wash.; two brothers; a sister; and seven grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to The American Heart Association.

James Borgardts Kent, Wash.

Service for James “Jim” Borgardts, 58, was Monday at Yahn and Son Funeral Home in Auburn, Wash.

Mr. Borgardts, who was born in Spokane, died Thursday.

He graduated in 1957 from Rogers High School.

In 1960 he married Eleanor VanSlyke in Spokane and they moved to Kent, Wash., in 1978.

Mr. Borgardts was working for W.W. Grainger, Inc., as a branch manager.

Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Tracey Ribacchi of Seattle, Kristine Borgardts Richardson of Pacific, Wash., and Kimberly Kucharski of Kent, Wash.; two sisters, Judith Gilpin of Lambertville, N.J., and Sherrian Pollard of Cashmere, Wash.; a brother, Michael Borgardts of Walla Walla; and three grandchildren.

Ruth Alden Spokane

Memorial service and inurnment for Ruth M. Alden, 79, was Monday at Fairmount Memorial Park.

Mrs. Alden, who was born in Northhampton, Mass., died Jan. 6.

She was a resident of Spokane since 1967 and taught swimming for three years at the YMCA.

Her husband, Charles Alden, died in 1984.

Survivors include a son, Donald Shepard of Amherst, Mass.; a daughter, Sally Shepard of Deer Park; three sisters, Mary Boudway of Mount Dora, Fla., Peggy Circosta of Massachusetts, and Anne Riter; a brother, Pat Kennedy of Delaware; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Duane Everts Deer Lake, Wash.

Service for Duane L. Everts, 60, was Monday at Lauer Funeral Home in Deer Park.

Mr. Everts, who was born in Spokane, died Thursday.

He served in the Navy and later worked at Materne Brothers Construction and N.A. Degerstrom.

Mr. Everts was a member of the Operating Engineers Local 370.

Survivors include his wife, Joanna; four sons, John, Jeff, Jerry and Robert Everts; three daughters, Judy Scalf, Jaclynne McAllister and Jaque Dashiell; a brother, Rick Everts; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Larry Hengen Spokane

No service will be held for Larry E. Hengen, 72, at his request. Hennessy-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Hengen, who was born in Spangle, Wash., died Wednesday.

He was a farmer.

Survivors include a son, Bruce Hengen of Rosalia, Wash.; two daughters, Linda Peterson of East Wenatchee, and Sharon Toles of Tempe, Ariz.; a brother, Greg Hengen of Spangle; and seven grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association Washington Affiliate.

James Hamilton Spokane

Memorial service for James A. Hamilton, 94, will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Zion Lutheran Church. Hazen and Jaeger Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Born in Colfax, Ill., Mr. Hamilton died Saturday.

He worked for the Army Corps of Engineers and owned and operated a local fuel company for 12 years.

Mr. Hamilton was a 42-year Spokane resident and a member of Zion Lutheran Church, the Spokane Zoological Society and the Spokane Audubon Society.

His wife, Olive, died in 1977.

Survivors include several nieces and nephews.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Zion Lutheran Endowment.

Myrtle (Hagen) Talbot Spokane

Service for Myrtle (Hagen) Talbot, 82, was Monday at Plymouth Congregational Church. Burial followed at Fairmount Memorial Park.

Mrs. Talbot, who was born in Ferndale, died Thursday.

She graduated from North Central High School and from St. Lukes School of Nursing.

Mrs. Talbot received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Gonzaga University and her Masters Degree in Public Health from the University of California at Berkeley.

She was discharged as a captain in the Army Nurses Corps after World War II, having served on a Navy hospital ship in the South Pacific.

Mrs. Talbot was the director of the Psychiatry Department of St. Lukes Hospital, Director of Nurses at St. Lukes Hospital and worked for several doctors in Spokane.

She also worked for the City of Spokane as a nursing supervisor and retired as a nursing consultant for the State of Washington.

Mrs. Talbot was on the board of Cancer Patient Care and a member of the Sons of Norway, the American Legion and Women in Military Service.

She volunteered at the Corbin Senior Center, St. Lukes Rehab and was a member of the Jewels.

Her husband, Clarence Talbot, died in 1979.

Survivors include a sister, Thelma Strenge of Ferndale and two brothers, Henry Hagen of Veradale and Theodore Hagen of Marysville, Wash.

Memorial contributions may be made to Plymouth Congregation Church or Cancer Patient Care of Spokane County.

Walter Peterson Spokane

Memorial service for Walter L. Peterson, 78, will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Veradale United Church of Christ. Thornhill Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Peterson, who was born in Bismarck, N.D., died Thursday.

He moved to Spokane in 1924 and then to Veradale in 1930.

Mr. Peterson graduated from Central Valley High School and Washington State University. He then attained a bachelor of laws degree at Gonzaga University School of Law.

In 1952 he married Joy Randall.

He was elected to two terms as commissioner of Spokane County Fire Protection District 1. He also served as secretary and chief examiner to the Civil Service Commission in District 1 for more than 25 years.

Mr. Peterson practiced law for 45 years and was secretary and attorney to the Vera Irrigation District for 40 years.

He was a member of the Inland Empire Beekeepers Association and the Spokane Valley Camera Club.

Mr. Peterson became an authority on beekeeping and gave presentations on beekeeping at schools.

Survivors include his wife; four daughters, Kirsten Jerue of Medical Lake, Susan Walters of Modesto, Calif., Debra Custer of Eugene, Ore., and Janna Kach of Carnation, Wash.; a son, James Peterson of Spokane; two brothers, Laurence Peterson of Redondo Beach, Calif., and Curtis Peterson of Spokane; two sisters, Luella Dethlefs of Salem, Ore., and Karen Engvall of Olympia; 11 grandchildren and one great-grandson.

Alan Carter Spokane

Private memorial service for Alan D. Carter, 37, will be held at a later date. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Carter, a lifetime Spokane resident, died Sunday from cancer.

He worked as a salesman for Saw Clinic in Spokane.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara; a daughter, Amber Carter, and a son, Mitcheal Carter, both at home; his parents, Arles and Margaret Carter of Loon Lake; and two brothers, Kelly Carter of Portland and Darren Carter of Spokane.
