Stories, Songs In Honor Of Martin Luther King Jr.
Storyteller and singer V. Ted Hutchinson will perform at Glover Middle School on Tuesday in honor of the birthday of Martin Luther King Jr. Hutchinson will speak from 9 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. at the school at 2404 W. Longfellow. The program is free and open to the public.
Using folk tales and songs, Hutchinson leads his audience on a journey through African-American history from slave ships through the Civil Rights Era.
Through his presentation, Hutchinson presents stories and songs that emerged from the hearts of enslaved people while speaking to reconciliation in today’s world.
The program is sponsored by the Washington Commission for the Humanities, a statewide humanities speakers bureau. The commission is an independent, nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting public programs in the humanities throughout the state.

Bite of the APPLE
District 81 will hold open houses on Jan. 27 and Jan. 29 to explain the Alternative Parent Participation Learning Experience program to students and their families interested in participating in APPLE during the 1998-99 school year.
The sessions are scheduled for 7 p.m. in the board room of the Administration Building at 200 N. Bernard. Attendance at one of the sessions is a required part of the application process for parents interested in the program.
APPLE is a parent participation program which requires 90 hours of parent involvement each school year. APPLE serves children in grades one through six. Programs are located at Garfield, Franklin and Logan elementary schools.
