Everett Seeks To Clean Up Prostitution Areas
The City Council has changed Everett’s law to require jail time for some prostitution-related crimes.
Convicted prostitutes or their customers who violate court orders to stay out of parts of Everett will face a mandatory 10-day jail sentence and $250 fine.
Second-time offenders will get 90 days in jail and a $500 fine, and third-time offenders will face 180 days in jail and a $1,000 fine.
Under its “Stay Out of Areas of Prostitution” or SOAP law, the council has designated certain areas in the city as being high risk for prostitution. Municipal court judges can prohibit convicted prostitutes or their customers from loitering in those areas.
There are 51 women and 40 men with SOAP orders against them, Everett police spokesman Elliott Woodall said.
