Extensive TV Coverage Planned

Broadcast and cable networks have announced extensive coverage of this week’s visit to Cuba by Pope John Paul II. Here are highlights:

ABC’s Peter Jennings anchors “World News Tonight” (6:30 p.m. PST) from Havana, and “Good Morning America” news anchor Kevin Newman reports live from Cuba (7-9 a.m. PST).

“Nightline” (11:30 p.m. PST) will conclude a two-part report today.

CBS’ Dan Rather anchors “The CBS Evening News” from Havana (6:30 p.m. PST). He also will report for this weekend’s edition of “Saturday Morning” (9-11 a.m. PST).

Jane Robelot anchors “This Morning” from Cuba, with on-site correspondents including Martha Stewart reporting on Cuban culture and cuisine (7-9 a.m. PST).

NBC’s Tom Brokaw anchors “Nightly News” from Havana (6:30 p.m. PST) while live reports are going to be “Today” (7-9 a.m. PST, weekdays) and “Weekend Today” (7-9 a.m. PST, Saturday; 8-9 a.m. PST, Sunday).

CNN’s live coverage is anchored by Chief International correspondent Christiane Amanpour, and includes reports by Havana Bureau Chief Lucia Newman. There will be full coverage of the Pope’s meeting today with Cuban President Fidel Castro.
