Earl Potter Liberty Lake
Memorial service for Earl Ward Potter, 70, will be 1 p.m. today at Liberty Lake Community Church. Hazen and Jaeger Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Potter, who was born in Gladstone, Mich., died Sunday.
He served in the Navy during World War II and in the Army during the Korean War.
In 1951 he married Ann May.
They lived in Southern California for 16 years before moving to the Northwest. In 1973 they moved to Liberty Lake.
Mr. Potter worked in professional sales until his retirement in 1988.
He was a member of Liberty Lake Community Church and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1435.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Lynn Thomas of Spokane and Jeri Schaffner of Coeur d’Alene; two sons, Steven Potter of Yakima and Glenn Potter of Spokane; 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Melvin McFarlane Spokane
Service for Melvin McFarlane, 81, is planned for noon today at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 7th Ward Chapel. Graveside service will be Monday in Salt Lake City.
Mr. McFarlane, who was born in Salt Lake City, died Saturday.
In 1939, he married Norine Pendleton in Salt Lake City.
He served in the Army during World War II.
Mr. McFarlane served a three-year church mission in Czechoslovakia. He was also a former bishop and a counselor of the Spokane Stake Presidency, and served on the High Council of the church.
He was a manager at Alsco Northwest and was owner of Allstate Aluminum Products. He also worked as an agent for New England Life Insurance.
He lived in Spokane for 49 years and was a member of the National Association of Life Underwriters, Million Dollar Round Table and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Survivors include his wife, Norine; three daughters, Janice May of Spokane, and Melva Dixon and Gayle Summerhays, both of Salt Lake City; two sons, Daniel and Gary McFarlane, both of Spokane; 20 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Lillian ‘Arla’ Daniel Richland
Memorial service for Lillian “Arla” Daniel, 93, will be at 3 p.m. today at Central United Protestant Church in Richland. Einans Funeral Home in Richland is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Daniel, who died Saturday, was born in Oregon City, Ore.
In 1922 she married James Daniel, and they moved to Spokane. They moved to Yakima in 1965 and to Richland in 1968.
She was a member of Central Christian Church, P.E.O., Knife and Fork Club, Manito Garden Club, YWCA Board of Directors, Booth Memorial and St. Luke’s Hospital Auxiliary. She was a Girl Scout troop leader and a member of Boy Scout Mothers, Whitman College Mothers and several Western dance groups.
Mrs. Daniel was also a member of the Central United Protestant Church in Richland, where she worked several years in the nursery. She was also a volunteer teacher’s aide in Richland schools.
Her husband died in 1968.
Survivors include two sons, Leland Daniel of Richland and Rodger Daniel of Selah, Wash.; a daughter, Arla Mock of Richland; 11 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.

Luella Rohn Mead
Service for Luella Lucilee Rohn, 68, will be at 1 p.m. today at Riplinger Funeral Home. Cremation will follow the service.
Mrs. Rohn, who was born in Fruitland, Wash., died Monday.
She worked as a waitress for 15 years at the Coach House in Spokane.
Her husband, William Rohn, died in 1983.
Survivors include a son, Dan Rohn of Spokane; two sisters, Ella Mae Siedel of Mead and Doris Ogle of Arizona; two brothers, Bob McCord of Spokane and Jim McCord of Mead; and a grandson.
O.V. ‘Mack’ Greene Medical Lake
Funeral service for O.V. McIntyre “Mack” Greene, 82, will be at 11 a.m. today at Schanzenbach Funeral Home in Chewelah, Wash. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Jump Off Joe, Wash.
Mr. Greene, who was born in St. John, Wash., died Sunday.
He was raised in the Yakima Valley and later moved to Hoquiam, Wash.
Mr. Greene worked as a foreman at the Posey Manufacturing Co. in Hoquiam from 1935 to 1954.
In 1937 he married Florence Hornby.
They moved to Jump Off Joe Lake in 1954.
Mr. Greene operated a dairy farm from 1957 to 1973.
Survivors include his wife, Florence; three sons, Terry Greene of Spokane, Brian Greene, of Colfax, Wash., and David Greene of Steilacoom, Wash.; a daughter, Sharon Wayson of Lynnwood, Wash.; a brother, Orville Greene of Wenatchee; two sisters, Rose Braaten of Spokane and Vi Smith, both of Selah, Wash.; nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Thomas Trisler Hayden Lake, Idaho
Service for Thomas R. Trisler, 49, will be at 1 p.m. today at Yates Funeral Home, Hayden Chapel. Burial will follow at Forest Cemetery in Coeur d’Alene.
Mr. Trisler, who was born in Nashville, Tenn., died Tuesday.
He grew up in California and graduated from high school in 1967. He worked as a truck driver for Mission Linen and Raney Trucking.
Mr. Trisler also attended Oxnard College and worked for Southern Pacific Milling Co. until moving to Hayden Lake in 1991.
He worked for Con-Mat and United Parcel Service prior to working for Central Pre-Mix in Spokane in 1993.
Mr. Trisler was a member of the New Life Church.
Survivors include his wife, Alice; two sons, Shane and Trevor Trisler, both of Hayden Lake; his parents, Raymond and Kay Trisler of Missouri; four brothers, Don Trisler of Louisiana, John and Gene Trisler, both of Missouri, and Mike Trisler of California; and a sister, Sharon Corona of California.

Herbert Wendlandt Spokane
Visitation for Herbert August Wendlandt, 94, will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home. Service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Fairmount Memorial Park.
Mr. Wendlandt, a 51-year Spokane resident, died last Friday.
He was born in Reardan, Wash., and farmed in the Edwall, Wash., and Reardan areas. In 1946, he began farming on the Four Mound Prairie.
He was a member of Ridgeview Christian Center, a charter member of Waukon Grange and was on the Spokane County Fire District 5 board of commissioners for 12 years.
His wife, Mary Ellen, died in 1994.
Survivors include three daughters, Marjorie Ryan of Nine Mile Falls, Mary Ellen Camp of Spangle, and Marian Dole of Rathdrum, Idaho; a son, Ervin Wendlandt of Spokane; two brothers, Warren Wendlandt of Guam and Alvin Wendlandt of Tacoma; 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

William Colville Reardan, Wash.
Memorial service for William “Bill” Colville, 75, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Strate Funeral Home in Davenport, Wash.
Mr. Colville, who was born in Reardan, died Jan. 16.
In 1940 he graduated from Reardan High School.
He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II and served some time in China.
After the war he moved to Spokane, where he married Helen Eoekel in 1948.
They moved back to Reardan, where he was owner and operator of Colville Inc., and the Chevron Oil distributorship in Reardan. He was Reardan’s fire chief and a commissioner for Lincoln County Fire District No. 4.
Survivors include his wife; a son, William “Chip” Colville of Reardan; a daughter Cindy Carr of Medford, Ore; a brother, Herman Wagner of Reardan; and two grandchildren.

Willie Lowe Colfax, Wash.
Service for Willie Lowe, 82, will be at 11 a.m. today at Peace Lutheran Church in Colfax. Burial will follow at the Colfax Cemetery. Bruning Funeral Home in Colfax is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Lowe, who was born in Oak Point, Wash., died Tuesday.
He moved to Valier, Mont., in 1917 and then to Colfax in 1926. In 1934 he graduated from Colfax High School.
In 1940 he married Helena Krom in Moscow, Idaho, and they made their home in Colfax.
He worked in farming and landscaping until he began employment with Rogers Brothers Seed in 1938. He became manager of the company in 1960 and held that position until his retirement in 1981.
Mr. Lowe was a member of the Colfax Bowling Association and the Colfax Elks Lodge.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Marcia Cocking, a brother, Otis Lowe, and a sister, Jean Dixon, all of Colfax; and five grandchildren.

Lois ‘Dena’ Everhart Spokane
Memorial service for Lois B. “Dena” Everhart, 76, will be at 2 p.m. today at Thornhill Valley Funeral Home.
Mrs. Everhart, who was born and raised in Pomeroy, Wash., died Jan. 14.
She graduated from high school in Pomeroy.
During World War II, she worked in an aircraft factory in Florida, and in 1946 moved to Spokane.
She worked as a real estate agent in the Spokane Valley for various real estate agencies for 15 years before retiring in the early 1980s.
She was a 56-year resident of Spokane and was president of the Women’s Council of the Spokane Board of Realtors in the late 1970s.
Her husband of 16 years, Darrell Everhart, died in 1996.
Survivors include a daughter, Sharon Windhorst of Liberty Lake; two brothers, William and James Kimble, both of Spokane; and four grandsons.

Michael Higashi Spokane
Visitation for Michael I. Higashi, 41, will be from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at Ball and Dodd Funeral Home - North. Memorial service will be at 4 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Mr. Higashi, who was born in Spokane, died Tuesday.
He graduated in 1975 from Rogers High School.
Mr. Higashi and his brother, Craig, were co-owners of Spokane Produce.
He was a member of Sundance Men’s Golf Club and the Nissi Golf Club.
Survivors include a daughter, Trisha Pentas of Spokane; his parents, Shozo and Mary Higashi of Spokane; a brother, Craig Higashi of Spokane; two sisters, Jacqueline Higashi-Poynter and Lisa Lauderdale, both of Spokane; and his grandfather, George Nomura of Spokane.
Sister Aurelia Ludowitz, S.N.J.M. Spokane
Mass for Sister Aurelia Maria Ludowitz, S.N.J.M., 93, will be at 11 a.m. today at the Convent of the Holy Names. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Sister Ludowitz, who was born in Wesley, Iowa, died Tuesday.
In 1924 she entered the convent at Marylhurst, Ore.
She earned a bachelor of science in chemistry and a bachelor of arts in education to prepare her to teach in Portland, Salem and Eugene, Ore., and Spokane, Seattle, Everett, Richland and Edmonds, Wash.

Julia ‘Julie’ Long Spokane
Memorial service for Julia “Julie” Long, 52, will be at 10 a.m. today at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home. Private inurnment was held.
Mrs. Long, who was born in Milwaukee, died Monday.
She had been a resident of Spokane for 22 years, and had worked as a sales representative for Spokane Cash Register.
Mrs. Long was a member of Plymouth Congregational Church and the Spokane Restaurant Association.
Survivors include a son, Jack Long, and her mother, Elizabeth Jay, both of Spokane; a brother, Chris Jay of Bend, Ore.; a sister, Mary Roos of Challis, Idaho; and one grandchild.

Chrystal Cady Chewelah, Wash.
Service for Chrystal Jean Cady, 63, is planned for 5 p.m. today at Lauer Funeral Home in Deer Park. Cremation will precede the service.
Mrs. Cady, who was born in Priest River, Idaho, died Jan. 9.
She worked as a homemaker and was a former Deer Park and Colville resident.
Her husband, Richard Cady, died in 1974.
Mrs. Cady is survived by a daughter, Linda Cady of Colville and Addy, Wash.; two sons, Gene Cady of Colville and Thomas Cady of Salem, Ore.; and a brother, Jerry Knight of Deer Park.
Lee Hirst Spokane
Memorial service for Lee R. Hirst, 50, will be at 2 p.m. today at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church. The Cremation Society of Washington is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Hirst, a lifetime Spokane resident, died Monday.
He served in the Army and was stationed in Germany during the Vietnam War.
Mr. Hirst received his associate’s degree from Spokane Falls Community College.
He worked for the Washington State Department of Health until his early retirement.
Survivors include his mother, Eunice Hirst of Spokane; a brother, Gary Hirst of Yakima; and a sister, Susan Guthrie of Rathdrum, Idaho.
Vernon Barnsley Rathdrum, Idaho
Memorial service for Vernon Elmer Arthur Barnsley, 56, will be at 11 a.m. today at English Funeral Chapel in Coeur d’Alene.
Mr. Barnsley, who was born in Pennsylvania, died Monday.
He moved to the Rathdrum area in 1964 and owned a painting business and a peanut business.
Survivors include his wife, Kaye; two sons, Alex Barnsley of Spokane and Alan Barnsley of Alaska; three daughters, Alison Barnsley of California, Anna Werblow of Oregon and Amy Keith of Alaska; and four grandchildren.

Simion Matei Spokane

Mr. Matei, who was born in Dayton, Ohio, died Monday.
He had lived in Spokane for 10 years, and worked as an auto mechanic.
He was a member of the Cathedral of Our Lady of Lourdes.
Survivors include his daughter, Stela Barac of Spokane; a brother Gheorghe Matei of Romania;and two grandchildren.
Pearl Canwell Spokane
Service for Pearl A. Canwell, 93, was Wednesday. Burial was at Greenwood Memorial Terrace.
Miss Canwell, who was born in Spokane, died Monday. She had been a resident of Spokane for 50 years.
She worked as a secretary for the General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists for 45 years.
She was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church and active in church sabbath school.
Miss Canwell is survived by three brothers, Al, John and Joe Canwell, all of Spokane; and 12 nieces and nephews.

Lillian Halverson Gray Spokane
Graveside service for Lillian L. Halverson Gray, 92, was Wednesdsay at Greenwood Memorial Terrace.
Mrs. Gray, who died Sunday, was born in Winona, Wash.
She owned a grocery store, and had been a Spokane resident for 70 years.
Two husbands, Clarence Halverson and Milo Gray, preceded her in death.
Mrs. Gray is survived by a stepson, Jalen Gray of Seattle.
Ruth Larsen Newport, Wash.
Memorial service for Ruth Cora Larsen, 78, was Thursday.
Mrs. Larsen, who was born in Earl, Wis., died Monday.
She moved to the Newport/Priest River, Idaho, area in 1935 and graduated from high school in 1937 in Priest River.
In 1952 she married Harold Larsen in Newport.
Mrs. Larsen was a homemaker.
Her husband died last November.
Survivors include a son, Harold Larsen of Priest River; two daughters, Arvalla Larsen of Virginia Beach, Va., and Sandra Howell of Manson, Wash.; a sister, Frances Morrow of Priest River; and four grandchildren.
Mark Buchanan Spokane
Memorial service for Mark T. Buchanan, 82, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Glover Mansion. The Cremation Society of Washington is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Buchanan, who was born in Van Buren, Mo., died Jan. 15.
He received a PhD from Cornell University in 1940 and was an assistant associate professor of Agricultural Economics at Washington State University between 1940 and 1945.
From 1946 to 1967 he served as full professor of agriculture, director of the agriculutral experiement stations at Washington State University and vice director of the institute of agricultural sciences.
Between 1966 and 1980 Mr. Buchanan was the director at large for the agricultural experiment stations of the 13 Western states and was stationed at the University of California in Berkeley, Calif.
From 1977 to 1983 he was in Washington D.C. serving in the same capacity.
He also served as acting associate administrator for the Cooperative State Research Service for USDA, was a member of the OICD Science Review Team in China and a member of the Project Development Team in Pakistan.
In addition to his United States agricultural activities he was director of a University Exchange program related to improved agricultural methods with the University of Punjab in Pakistan during 1960 to 1962, and was Chief of Party USAID Farming Systems Project in Tazania from 1983 to 1986.
Survivors include his wife, Nancy; three sons, Carlin of Spokane and Tom and Chuck, both of Seattle; a daughter, Linda of Anaheim, Calif.; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Helen Lamb Ritzville, Wash.
Service for Helen M. Lamb, 88, was Wednesday. Burial was at Ritzville Memorial Cemetery.
Mrs. Lamb, who was born in Ritzville, died Monday.
She graduated from Ritzville High School in 1928.
Mrs. Lamb moved to Spokane, where she worked at Scotts Laundry until she retired in 1974. She then moved back to Ritzville, where she lived for the past 24 years.
Mrs. Lamb was a member of Emanuel Lutheran Church in Ritzville and was a volunteer at Ritzville Life Care Center.
Survivors include two sons, Clyde Lamb of Kent, Wash., and Clell Lamb of California; two daughters, Charlene Tholen of San Jose, Calif., and Clelah Little of Laguna Niguel, Calif.; a brother Richard Miller of Ritzville; a sister, Violet Michaelson of Cheney; 13 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
Heidi Fay Spokane
Memorial service for Heidi Ann Fay, 45, will be at 11 a.m. today at Riplinger Funeral Home.
Mrs. Fay, who was a 28-year resident of Spokane, died Monday.
She was born in Superior, Mont., and graduated from Kinman Business University in Spokane.
Mrs. Fay, along with her husband, Mel, owned and operated a floor covering business.
Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Holly and Melody Fay, both at the home; her parents, Art and Edith Watts of Spokane; and two sisters, Naomi Bowerman of Seattle and Lauri Kunes of Moses Lake.
Audrey Piatt Sandpoint
Memorial service for Audrey E. Piatt, 71, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church in Sandpoint. Coffelt Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements. Burial will be at Pinecrest Memorial Park in Sandpoint.
Mrs. Piatt, who was born in Montana, died Tuesday.
She graduated from Sandpoint High School and Kinman Business University in Spokane.
Mrs. Piatt worked for the Bonner County National Bank, Mace’s Auto Service and Bargain Supplies before becoming a bookkeeper for the Bonner County School District, retiring in 1988.
Mrs. Piatt was a member the Order of the Eastern Star and was a former Girl Scout leader.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, serving as an elder and treasurer, and volunteered with the Mountainside Care Center Auxiliary.
Mrs. Piatt was past guardian of Job’s Daughters and served on the library board of directors.
Survivors include her husband, Ken; a son, Doug Piatt, and a daughter, Sue Knepper, both of Sandpoint; a sister, Betty Shields of Bremerton; two brothers, Dick Mace of Richland and Howard Lloyd of Spokane; her stepmother, Viola Mace of Bremerton; and five grandchildren.
