Bogus Buck Returns
Wildlife enforcement
At least 30 red-faced poachers were bagged in early January by Idaho agents who staked out stuffed decoy deer or elk in the Clearwater Region.
Near Dent Bridge over Dworshak Reservoir, agents cited seven violators in one evening.
In conjunction with 30 other states and several Canadian provinces, the Idaho Fish and Game Department began the use of artificial animals to apprehend poachers in the late 1980s.
Stuffed bears, pheasants and coyotes also have been used to flush out and arrest people who succumb to trespassing, road hunting and shooting from a motorized vehicle.
In addition to fines and license revocations, the weapons used in the violations are often confiscated by the court and sold at auction. , DataTimes
