NEW FACES:
Angi Shamblin has joined McFarland & Alton P.S. as manager of the firm’s human resources consulting department. Her duties include human resource services to clients, personnel selection, employee benefits consulting, human resource current practices audits and employee incentive compensation planning. Shamblin previously was human resources director at Saint Joseph Care Center.
Dakotah Direct Inc. has hired Amy Miller as an account executive in its Account Services Department. Miller was previously an account representative for Frontier Communications.
Kathie Lyon has relocated her accounting practice from Sun Valley, Idaho, to 1121 N. Argonne Road, Suite 109 in the Spokane Valley. Lyon, who is a certified public accountant, provides complete tax, accounting, financial planning and management advisory services.
Joanne Carr, assistant to the president and director of external affairs at the Colorado School of Mines, has been named vice president for advancement at the University of Idaho. Carr, who will oversee the UI offices of development, alumni relations, communications and university marketing, will assume her new role early in February. She holds a Ph.D. in public administration from the University of Colorado.
Lumbermen’s of Washington Inc. has named Tim Borg as manager of its Spokane store. Borg most recently managed Lumbermen’s Redmond, Wash., location.
The following people have joined the Coeur d’Alene office of D.A. Davidson & Co. as financial consultants after completing a training program at the company’s headquarters in Great Falls, Mont.:
Rich Ronnestad is a graduate of the Air Force Academy and received master’s degrees from Colorado Technical University and Embry-Riddle University. He served 16 years in the Air Force as an officer and fighter pilot.
Mara’d Sjostrom formerly was the owner, along with her husband, of a garden and nursery business in Priest River and Post Falls. She was president of the Post Falls Chamber of Commerce in 1996.
ITT Technical Institute has named Wayne Elinger as director of education. Elinger will manage the faculty, curricula and students at the college. He previously was a division dean for technical areas and continuing education at Spokane Community College.
MOVING UP:
Jacklin Seed has promoted the following employees:
Hiromi Yanagisawa, formerly vice president and managing director of marketing, was named senior vice president of marketing. Yanagisawa will assume overall managing responsibilities for domestic and international marketing as well as the Medalist America and JacklinGolf divisions.
Tom Stoeser, formerly chief financial officer, is now senior vice president of finance, administration and acquisitions. Stoeser will manage all financial functions for Jacklin Seed and its affiliated operations.
Myron Lightbody, formerly grower services administrative manager, was named senior vice president of plant operations. Lightbody will manage all plant operations in Post Falls and Nezperce, Idaho, as well as Albany, Ore., and Ritzville, Wash.
Glenn Jacklin, formerly grower services manager, is now senior vice president of production and grower services. He assumes overall managing responsibilities for production and grower services in Post Falls, Nezperce and southern Idaho, as well as production in Oregon and Washington’s Columbia Basin.
Doug Brede, formerly research director, was named senior vice president of research. Brede will manage all research functions for Jacklin Seed and Medalist America.
JoAnn Asher Thompson professor and chair of the Washington State University department of apparel, merchandising and interior design, has been named associate dean at WSU Spokane.
The following employees of McFarland and Alton P.S. have received promotions:
Thomas Shirk was named internal IT manager. Shirk is responsible for all information systems and Web page design.
Martin Harski, director of cost segregation consulting services, was promoted to principal.
Kevin Sell also was named a principal. Sell, who is assigned to the tax department, oversees the Business Advisory Services Group.
Nicole Grier was promoted to marketing director. A graduate of Gonzaga University, Grier previously was in the Communications Consulting Group.
Dan Demchuck and Allison Yarnell both were named senior manager in the Audit Department. Demchuk’s expertise is in the manufacturing and construction industries. Yarnell specializes in the Financial Institutions Services Group.
Promotions to department manager include: Cammie Baird, tax; Tammy Erickson and Mike Thronson, audit; Rachel Hellman and Mary Knutson, pension planning.
New senior accountants include: Doug Ashbaugh, Lori Field, Angela Schiferns and Clay Sturgis.
Promotions to staff accountant include: Joe Gamon, April Humphrey, Janice Payne, Tami Reathaford, Karen Rowland, Scott Sevigny and Jason Tellighusen.
Ken Carosella of Dakotah Direct Inc. has been promoted to general manager of the company’s Airport Park facility. Carosella previously was operations manager at the downtown Spokane facility.
Phil Latendresse has been named operations manager of the Spokane Branch of Trinity Universal Insurance. Latendresse joined Trinity as a marketing representative from Wausau Insurance Co. in 1993.
Ken Casavant, a faculty member at Washington State University since 1971, has been appointed interim vice provost for academic affairs. Casavant, who has served as chair of the Faculty Senate and co-chair of the WSU Foundation’s Faculty/Staff Drive, replaces Geoff Gamble, who resigned to become provost at the University of Vermont. Casavant will serve while a search is conducted for a permanent replacement for Gamble.
KUDOS:
Spokane accountant Elmer Emery has been named an honorary 50-year member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. Emery is a retired partner in the Spokane office of the international firm of Coopers and Lybrand L.L.P., and has been a CPA since 1947.
AgProductions has won the Communicator Award for Television and Video for a TV commercial advertising rural fire equipment. The Spokane-based firm competed with more than 2,900 video producers, advertising agencies and television operators. The award recognized projects that exceed industry standards in conveying a company’s or organization’s message.
Carole Mohr, vice president of operations at Dakotah Direct Inc., was named Telephone Professional Woman of the Year.
Dr. Leigh Gill has been named a diplomate of the American Board of Family Practice, the certifying entity of the family practice specialty. Gill earned diplomate status by passing the ABFP’s certification examination, which covers pediatrics, internal medicine, surgery, obstetrics, gynecology, psychiatry, prevention and other aspects of family practice.

Idaho Gov. Phil Batt has appointed Mike Boeck of Sandpoint as a member of the Idaho Forest Products Commission. Boeck, who has been actively involved in the forest products industry for 25 years, is manager of Idaho Forest Industry’s sawmill in Priest River.
