Riverside Wrestlers Take Close Win

Three solid wins at the upper weights allowed Riverside to edge visiting Newport-Cusick 40-36 in Great Northern League wrestling Tuesday.

The Rams (3-3), protecting a 28-18 lead, began pulling away with Spencer Murphy’s 11-3 major decision at 190 pounds. Jesse Lee (215) and Greg Petropoulos (275) followed with Riverside pins.

N-C (0-6) finished the meet with two pins and a forfeit.

Elsewhere, Medical Lake (4-2) rolled to a 54-18 win over Chewelah (1-5), while Lakeside (6-0) notched a 57-12 win at Deer Park (3-3).

At Chewelah, ML’s Hieu Do (108) unleashed a second-round reversal and near fall for a 9-7 win over Josh Kinley, who had moved up a weight. ML’s Jeff Racicot (158) defeated Chris Eggleston 12-5 with six takedowns. Jacob Erickson (101) of Chewelah, who weighs 87 pounds, topped Devon Tschirley 4-1.

At Deer Park, Lakeside jumped ahead 23-0 and finished with five pins. The Eagles host Colville (5-0) Thursday night to decide the league title.

Boosters dine

The Spokane Vandal basketball boosters meet today at noon at Finnerty’s Red Lion.
