Shadow To Host Division Playoffs

The Spokane Shadow’s bid to host the Northwest Division playoffs for the third straight year was approved Tuesday by the USISL.

As host of the playoffs, the Shadow will receive an automatic berth into the playoffs. The Shadow will play in the first match of an Aug. 1 doubleheader at 6 p.m.

The winner of the Northwest Division championship will play the winner of the Southwest Division in the Western Conference final Aug. 8, site to be determined.

King finishes 8th in amateur golf

Katie King of Spokane fired a 78-81-81-240 and tied for eighth place at the Washington State Women’s Amateur tournament. The three-day tournament was played at the 5,855-yard, par-73 Bellingham Golf and Country Club course concluded Tuesday.

King, a 1994 Gonzaga Prep graduate and senior co-captain of the Notre Dame golf team this year, was 18 strokes behind winner Chiharu Yamaguchi of Lacey. Yamaguchi closed with a 77 for a three-day 4-under par total of 72-73-77-222.

Spokane bowler finishes 31st

Dan Kukuk of Spokane finished 31st, with a two-day pin total of 3,719, in qualifying for the PBA Senior Open in Boise, Idaho.

American Legion

Ben Miller, Chad Adamson, Brian Chance and Justin Folkins each had two hits as the Cannons defeated the North Stars 7-6 Tuesday night.

Tony Bove doubled, homered and drove in three runs for the North Stars.

Pullman swept a doubleheader from the Royals 9-4 and 4-3.

In the opener, Steve Chamberlain was 3 for 4 with two doubles, a homer and seven RBIs. Winning pitcher Brad Biagi scattered six hits, walked none and struck out nine.

In the nightcap, Pullman broke a 3-3 tie in the fifth inning.

The Bandits beat the Blue Devils 11-9. Joe Moll and Justin Drake had three hits each for the Bandits. Chris Eggleston and Aaron Farr had three hits for the losers.
