Parade Kicks Off The Cda Celebration
Unpublished correction: The name of the parade’s Grand Marshall, Louise Shadduck, was misspelled in this story.
Coeur d’Alene is well known for its large fireworks show on the Fourth of July, but it is also known for its annual parade that winds down Sherman Avenue.
Saturday, the parade will start at 11 a.m. and is expected to last more than an hour.
The parade will include floats from Walla Walla and British Columbia, as well as some familiar performers. One crowd favorite is the “Perfectionots,” a group of costumed musicians who get together for the parade every year. The ad hoc marching band includes people ranging in age from 15 to 70.
Another favorite is the Red Hot Mamas of Coeur d’Alene, a delightful collection of women with more than a touch of outrageousness in them. The Kootenai Medical Center’s “Gurney Patrol” will also make an appearance, with hospital staffers performing a routine as they roll down the street.
The Grand Marshall of this year’s parade is Louis Shadduck, a Coeur d’Alene author who has published several books on life in the Northwest.
Don’t miss the fireworks show over Lake Coeur d’Alene at dusk.
