Jimmy Harris Coeur d’Alene

Memorial service for Jimmy D. Harris, 62, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Fort Sherman Chapel in Coeur d’Alene. Yates Funeral Home in Coeur d’Alene is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Harris, who was born in Moscow, Idaho, died Thursday.

He attended Moscow High School and Northwest Nazarene College in Nampa, Idaho.

Mr. Harris obtained a doctorate degree in 1976 and served in the Army for two years.

He moved to Lewiston and taught at Jenifer Junior High from 1960 until 1970. He was a visiting professor at Idaho State University in Pocatello, Idaho.

He later moved to the Coeur d’Alene area.

Mr. Harris served as a superintendent of schools in St. Maries and Nez Perce, Idaho, and Coquille, Ore., before retiring in 1995.

He was a member of Alcoholics Anonymous, Church of the Nazarene in Moscow, Moscow Junior Chamber of Commerce, Lions Club, Elks Lodge, Masonic Lodge and Lewiston Golf and Country Club.

Survivors include three sons, Mark Harris of Russia, Bruce Harris of Oregon and Rusty Harris of Mississippi; three daughters, Kirsten Kaiser of Maryland, Marian Christianson of Georgia and Evelyn Harris of Oregon; two brothers, Edward Harris of Pullman and Roy Harris of Sandpoint; two sisters, Peggy Amarok of Seattle and Shirley Bates of Spokane; and seven grandchildren.

Alta Donnell Coeur d’Alene

Service and burial for Alta Ida Donnell, 83, will be held at a later date in California. Yates Funeral Home in Coeur d’Alene is in charge of local arrangements.

Ms. Donnell, who was born in Missouri, died Tuesday.

She moved to California in 1941 and worked for Bruce Church Co. for 10 years and later Spiegle Food for 10 years.

Ms. Donnell moved to Coeur d’Alene in 1994 and was a member of Bethel Baptist Church, American Legion Auxiliary and Veterans of Foreign Wars in California.

Survivors include three sons, Ronnie Donnell of Coeur d’Alene, Joe Atkins of Oklahoma and Daniel Atkins of California; three daughters, Pat Johnson of Rathdrum, Idaho, Wilma Leavitt of California and Connie Smith of Florida; a sister, Thelma Anderson of California; 19 grandchildren and 39 great-grandchildren.

Keith Roberts Smelterville, Idaho

Memorial service for Keith Wayne Roberts, 61, will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Smelterville Lions Club. Inurnment will be at Greenwood Cemetery in Kellogg. Shoshone Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Roberts, who was born in Aspen, Colo., drowned Saturday in the North Fork of the Coeur d’Alene River near Enaville, Idaho.

He served with the Navy during the Korean War and later lived in Tacoma.

Mr. Roberts moved to the Silver Valley earlier this year from Tacoma, and worked for Sunshine Mine and Bunker Hill Mine.

He had also worked in construction and was recently employed by Morrison Knudtsen with the Environmental Protection Agency in Smelterville.

He was a member of the Local Labor Union in Spokane.

His wife, Twyla, died in 1996.

Survivors include a daughter, Teresa Dunnington of Coeur d’Alene; a stepson, Bill Merrick of Pinehurst, Idaho; a sister, Anita Smades of Colorado; four grandchildren, two stepgrandchildren and three stepgreat-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Diabetes Foundation.

Major Thompson Sandpoint

Private family service for Major Myron MacDonald Thompson, 82, will be held at a later date. Coffelt Funeral Service in Sandpoint is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Thompson, who was born in North Dakota, died July 2.

He grew up in the Midwest and joined the Army in 1939. He served with the Army Air Corps during World War II.

Mr. Thompson retired from the military in 1961 and was a longtime resident of Whitefish, Mont., where he worked for Great Northern Railroad.

He later transferred to Spokane, retiring from Burlington Northern Railroad.

Mr. Thompson moved to Sandpoint in 1996 and was a member of United Methodist Church, Spokane Veterans of Foreign Wars and Spokane Valley Eagles Lodge.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Sandy.

Survivors include two sons, Kenneth Thompson of Washington, D.C., and Robert Thompson of Olympia; two daughters, Anne Thompson of Spokane and Charlotte Jydstrup of Sandpoint; two sisters; five brothers; eight grandchildren and one great-grandson.

Norma Swalley Hauser Lake, Idaho

Graveside memorial service for Norma J. Swalley, 75, will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Pines Cemetery in Spokane. Yates Funeral Home in Coeur d’Alene is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Swalley, who was born in Pullman, died Sunday.

She grew up in Palouse, Wash., and moved to Spokane in the 1920s and attended North Central High School.

Mrs. Swalley lived in Spokane and also had homes at Deer Lake and the Oregon Coast.

She moved to Hauser Lake in 1994.

Her husband, John, died in 1994.

Survivors include two daughters, Carol Glisson of Spirit Lake, Idaho, and Robin McLeod of Otis Orchards; two brothers, Grant Turnbow of Seattle and Ray Turnbow of Portland; two sisters, Loretta Crussell and Claudia Ott, both of Vancouver, Wash.; six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Nathan Gschwend Coeur d’Alene

Visitation for Nathan Phillip “Nate” Gschwend, 18, will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Yates Funeral Home in Coeur d’Alene. Funeral Mass will follow at 1 p.m. at St. Pius Catholic Church in Coeur d’Alene.

Mr. Gschwend, who was born in Santa Clara, Calif., died Sunday in an automobile accident.

He moved to Coeur d’Alene when he was three years old.

Mr. Gschwend attended Lake City High School and planned on attending North Idaho College.

Survivors include his parents, Stephen and Karen Gschwend of Coeur d’Alene; a sister, Amber Gschwend of Coeur d’Alene; his grandparents, Felix and Phyllis Gschwend of California, and Dr. Karl and Roberta Koch of Oregon.

John Butler Jr. Coeur d’Alene

Service for John Thomas Butler Jr., 61, will be Friday in California. Yates Funeral Home in Coeur d’Alene is in charge of local arrangements.

Mr. Butler, who was born in Gary, Ind., died Saturday.

He lived in Orange, Calif., and owned Butler Vending until moving to Coeur d’Alene in 1992.

Mr. Butler then operated a ministorage facility.

Survivors include his wife, Carolyn; four sons, Stephen, John and Douglas Butler, all of California, and Charles Butler of Colorado; a daughter, Becky Connolly of California; his father, John Butler of California; two brothers, Brad Butler of Texas and Ron Butler of Arizona; a sister, Kathleen Butler of Japan; and 10 grandchildren.

Doris St.Amand Smelterville, Idaho

Memorial service for Doris Jensen St.Amand, 74, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Kellogg Funeral Chapel. Inurnment will be at Pines Cemetery in Spokane. Shoshone Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. St. Amand, who was born in Troy, Idaho, died Tuesday.

She graduated from Kellogg High School, and worked at Kellogg Hospital and later at Bunker Hill Zinc Plant during World War II.

Mrs. St.Amand lived in Spokane before returning to the Silver Valley in 1950 and working for Pik-Kwik Grocery as a checker.

Survivors include her husband, Damase; a son, Rick St.Amand of Chattaroy; a sister, Joyce McFerran of Grandview, Wash.; two grandsons and three stepgreat-grandchildren.

Lindsay Hennon Coeur d’Alene

Visitation for Lindsay Rae Hennon, 15, will be held from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. today at Coeur d’Alene Memorial Funeral Home. Service will be Friday at 11 a.m. at New Life Community Church in Coeur d’Alene.

Ms. Hennon, who was born in Las Vegas, died Sunday in an automobile accident.

She moved to Coeur d’Alene in 1994 and attended Lake City High School. She was active in the youth group at New Life Community Church.

Survivors include her mother and stepfather, Sherilyn and Larry Toews of Coeur d’Alene; her father, Frank Hennon of Colorado; her grandparents, Camille Rabun of Oregon, and Teresa and Raymond Swanson of Arizona; two brothers, Travis Hennon and Ben Toews, and two sisters, Jennifer and Ciara Toews, all of Coeur d’Alene.

Maxine Pederson Orlando, Fla.

Service for Maxine B. Pederson, 63, will be today in Winter Park, Fla. Memorial service will be at a later date in Coeur d’Alene. Carey Hand Cox-Parker Funeral Home in Winter Park is in charge of arrangements.

Ms. Pederson, who was born in Dishman, died Sunday.

She was a longtime Coeur d’Alene resident and worked as an executive secretary for Crown Bank before moving to Florida in 1989.

Ms. Pederson was a member of the ABCL Bridge Club and Coeur d’Alene Golf Club.

She had bowled on leagues at the Cove Bowl and was a member of the St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church in Florida.

Survivors include two daughters, LeAnne Sullivan and Lori Southern, both of Florida; and four grandchildren.
