Area Dancers Successful At Spotlight Dance Cup

There were several area winners in the recent Spotlight Dance Cup competition, which attracted 300 dancers from Washington, Idaho and Montana.

High score winners for the Junior Division were:

Alicia Woodard, Spokane, overall solo; Woodard and Gabriela Domini, Spokane, overall duo/trio.

Moses Lake dancers (Afton Allard, Grace Atkinson, Danielle Baker, Whitney Bator, Tanae Bergeson, Corrisa Howard, Sara Hyer, Heather Luke, Kaylee McGowan, Morgan Miller, Kjirsti Peterson, Tristan Redal, Kristine Strite and Randi Tucker) took the overall large group.

Winners of the Senior Division, all from Spokane, were Corinne Curtis, overall solo; Tamara Guerin, Danica McDonald and Kate Hoover, overall duo/trio; and Krissy Farrow, Kelly Fuller, Melissa Pierce, Jennifer Eshelman, Lindsey Hinton, Denee Wolbert, Kyndra Hill, Cynthia Meyer, Brittney Pence and Kim Sackman, overall large group.

Two Spokane dance studios were recognized for Outstanding Entertainment: Dance Emporium and the Carol Lee Studio of Dance.

Ryan Wade has received a two-year full-tuition President’s Scholarship to Gonzaga University.

Wade completed his sophomore year this spring at Spokane Falls Community College and will transfer next fall to Gonzaga as a junior-level mechanical engineering student.

He is the son of Roger and Renee Wade, Spokane.

Robert Dirks, a member of The Wabash College Math Team in Crawfordsville, Ind., placed first with two other teammates in the annual Indiana College Mathematics Competition. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Dirks, Spokane.

Air Force Airman 1st Class Joshua K. Fox has graduated from basic training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio.

Fox, a 1997 graduate of Reardan (Wash.) High School, is the son of Merlin and Donna Fox, Medical Lake.

Marine Pvt. 1st Class Quinten D. Spain has graduated from basic training in San Diego. Spain is the son of Dameda Spain, Spokane, and Ronald Spain, Branson, Mo.

Marine 1st Sgt. Douglas H. Askerman was promoted to his present rank while serving with the 4th Reconnaissance Battalion, 4th Marine Division, at Elmendorf Air Force Base in Alaska. He is the son of Susie Askerman, Spokane.

Elizabeth Querna, a student at Dartmouth College in Hanover, N.H., won the Andrew Warden Edson Memorial Prize for outstanding work in introductory courses in government. Querna is the daughter of Donald and Christine Querna, Spokane.
