Methodist Church Offering Workshops Sessions Will Be Next Week At Whitworth College

“Jubilate,” a series of public ecumenical workshops sponsored by the United Methodist Church, will be at Whitworth College next week.

Morning and afternoon sessions are designed to highlight the arts and focus on ways to make worship more meaningful.

Morning workshops, 9:30 to 11 a.m. Tuesday through Friday, will include sacred and liturgical dance, readers’ theater, conducting, banner making, and “Personality, Prayer and Peace,” a workshop on self-exploration.

Afternoon workshops, 1:45 to 3:15 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday, will feature signing to music, readers’ theater, yoga and relaxation, percussion and beginning guitar.

“Transforming Conflict in the Sanctuary,” a master class taught by the Rev. Paul Graves, a religion columnist for The Spokesman-Review, will be at 8:15 a.m. Tuesday through Friday.

A service project at Central United Methodist Church on Thursday afternoon will have participants assisting with various Shalom Zone projects.

An open choir will perform during worship services at 7 p.m. each day, except Thursday, when the service begins at 7:30.

Registration begins at 11 a.m. Monday. Cost is $100 for the entire week, or $50 for individual afternoon or morning sessions.

Racism will be prayer topic

A prayer service sponsored by the Spokane Council of Ecumenical Ministries will focus on racism. The prayer time will be part of the response to the upcoming Aryan march in Coeur d’Alene.

The service will be at 4 p.m. Sunday at the Episcopal Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist, 127 E. 12th.

Speaker to discuss grief

Carolyn Hunter, state chaplain for the Gideon International Auxiliary, will speak on the topic, “Dealing with Grief,” at the Women’s Aglow luncheon at 11 a.m. Monday at the Days Inn Spokane Airport, 4212 W. Sunset Blvd.

Cost is $6, which includes lunch.
