Schweitzer Homes Bring Record Amount

From Staff

Sale prices for homes on Schweitzer Mountain reached a new record this month, when a three-bedroom home sold for $525,000.

A Seattle resident bought the log and stone house with a view of Lake Pend Oreille, said Steve Van Horne, associate broker for Coldwell Banker Resort Realty.

“Because of all the publicity, there’s a perception that this is a dead area,” said Van Horne, referring to the protracted legal battle over the sale of the debtridden Schweitzer Mountain Ski Resort.

Though development of new condos and homes on the mountain is down this year, about 12 higherend properties have sold in the last eight months, Van Horne said.

He estimated that about 20 percent of the homes and condos dotting the mountain are for sale. The $525,000 home was one of two in the “Big Timber Lodge” development owned by New York developer Clay Hutchison.
