Clara Mae Ellis Spokane

Clara Mae Ellis celebrated her 100th birthday Sunday.

Born July 12, 1898, on a homestead north of Reardan, Wash., Ellis was the oldest of nine children while growing up on the family farm.

Ellis graduated from the Sacred Heart School of Nursing in 1925 and was a private duty nursing in Spokane.

Ellis has one sister in Spokane and two brothers who farm in Reardan, and three nephews, Ken Ellis of Spokane, Robert Ellis of Coeur d’Alene and Vernon Ellis of Athol, Idaho.

She attributes her long life to hard work, a supportive family and very good health care.
