Cynthia Turner Sagle, Idaho

Memorial service for Cynthia K. Turner, 37, will be held today at 11 a.m. at Timber Basin Ranch in Bottle Bay near Sagle. For information, call (208) 263-9617 or 263-5289. A gathering will follow at the Garfield Bay Resort. Coffelt Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Turner, who was born in Sandpoint, died Wednesday from injuries received in an automobile accident near Sandpoint.

She attended schools in Sandpoint and then moved to Arizona before returning to Sandpoint in 1979.

Mrs. Turner then lived in California before returning to the Sandpoint area in 1990 and settled in Sagle.

She was involved with photography.

Survivors include her husband, Philip; a daughter, Jessica at home; her mother, Eva Cutler of Sandpoint; three sisters, Bonnie Jones and Connie Campbell, both of Oregon, and Jackie Lunde of Sandpoint; and two brothers, Ken Johnson and James Martin, both of Sandpoint.

Albert Svendsbye Bonners Ferry

Graveside service for Albert J. Svendsbye, 81, is set for 11 a.m. today at City of Libby (Mont.) Cemetery. Nelson and Vial Funeral Home in Libby is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Svendsbye, who was born in Hamlet, N.D., died Thursday.

He joined the Civilian Conservation Corps in 1935 and, following a year of service, joined his family in Bonners Ferry where he worked as a laborer on various farms in the area.

In 1955, he married Helen Bundy in Kalispell, Mont.

Mr. Svendsbye later moved to Libby where he worked for the J. Neils Lumber Company and the St. Regis Paper Company for 35 years.

His wife died in 1994 and he moved back to Bonners Ferry two years ago.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church and the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Jointers.

Survivors include a son, Elling Svendsbye of Arizona; four sisters, Bertha Washburn and Josephine Poindexter, both of Bonners Ferry, Gina Ballinger of Green Cove Springs, Fla., and Lina Hazle of Toledo, Ohio; a brother, Emil Svendsbye of Bonners Ferry; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Christine Wickersham Spokane

Graveside service for Christine J. Wickersham, 78, was Monday at Grandview Cemetery in Bonners Ferry, Idaho.

Mrs. Wickersham, a 14-year Spokane resident, died Thursday.

She was born near Shelby, Mont., and married Bill Wickersham and settled near Bonners Ferry.

Mrs. Wickersham later farmed in Cut Bank, Mont., before retiring in 1984 and moving to Spokane where she was a homemaker.

Her husband died in 1973.

Survivors include a son, Robert Wickersham of Kamiah, Idaho; two daughters, Dianne Barley and Dorothy Mercer, both of Spokane; a sister, Margaret Jordan of Macon, Ga.; three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Union Gospel Mission.

James Stebbins Jr. Coeur d’Alene

Service for James Jay “Jamie” Stebbins, 24, will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Trinity Lutheran Church. Burial will be at Forest Cemetery. Yates Funeral Home in Coeur d’Alene, is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Stebbins, who was born in Sandpoint, died Friday from cancer.

He graduated from Post Falls High School and was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church, North Idaho Cancer Support Group and North Idaho Classics Car Club.

Mr. Stebbins was the Honorary Crusade Chairman of the American Cancer Society’s Kootenai Unit in 1993.

Survivors include his father, Jim Stebbins, of Hayden, Idaho; his mother, Judy Stebbins of Coeur d’Alene; a sister, Julita Carroll of Coeur d’Alene; his grandparents, Emmett and Margaret Stebbins of Pinehurst; and two nephews, D’Artagnan and Duncan Carroll, both of Coeur d’Alene.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Wishing Star Foundation of Spokane.

Walter Hodgen Post Falls

At his request, no service will be held for Walter Jerrald Hodgen, 79, who died Thursday. Yates Funeral Home, Coeur d’Alene, is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Hodgen was born in Spokane and raised in Wenatchee. He then moved to Leavenworth, Wash., where he graduated from high school.

He was a construction worker until his retirement in the mid-1980s.

He married Jessie Hill in 1996. They spent winters in Arizona.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Sam, and two daughters, Kathy and Pam, all of Seattle; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Geoffrey Blass Coeur d’Alene

Service for Geoffrey “Jeff” Blass, 36, was Monday at Coeur d’Alene Memorial Funeral Home.

Mr. Blass who was born in Ukiah, Calif., died Thursday at his home.

He was raised in Ukiah and moved to Coeur d’Alene in 1989. He enjoyed the outdoors and many hobbies.

He was preceded in death by his brother John Blass.

Survivors include his parents, Arthur and Maxine Blass of Coeur d’Alene; two sisters; Rosemarie Esqueda of Billings, Mont., and Melaney Stinson of Coeur d’Alene; two brothers, Arthur Blass Jr. of Ukiah and Anthony Blass of Coeur d’Alene; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Nancy Ballard Coeur d’Alene

Graveside service for Nancy Ellen Ballard, 84, will be at 1 p.m. today at Coeur d’Alene Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Ballard, who was born in Lawrenceburg, Tenn., died Saturday.

She owned a beauty salon in Riverside, Calif., for 12 years before retiring and moving to Idaho in 1974.

Her husband, Guy, died in 1984.

Survivors include two daughters, Nancy Brockus of Dalton Gardens, Idaho, and Bonnie Abel of Coeur d’Alene; a son, Guy Ballard of Coeur d’Alene; a sister, Maxine Testa of Riverside, Calif.; 10 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.

Jessie Davis Sandpoint

Service for Jessie Evelyn Davis, 80, was Monday a.m. at Coffelt’s Moon Chapel in Sandpoint.

Ms. Davis who was born in Laclede, Idaho, died July 7.

She grew up and attended school in Laclede and then attended Priest River High School.

Ms. Davis had worked at the old Page Hospital in Sandpoint and then worked for the Sandpoint Cafe in the 1940s.

She then worked as a waitress at Traveler’s Cafe in Sandpoint, retiring in 1980.

Ms. Davis was a past member of the Sandpoint Eagles Lodge.

Survivors include two daughters, Mary Patrzeba of New Jersey and Alice Anderson of Bellingham; four grandchildren, Louis, Susan, Barbara, and Carl; and four great-grandchildren.

Julia Broker Spokane

Funeral for Julia E. Broker, 83, was Monday at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home. Burial will be held at a later date in Wisconsin.

Mrs. Broker, a 25-year Spokane resident, died Thursday.

She was born in Endicott, Wash., and worked as a minister.

Mrs. Broker was a member of the Lake Shore Tabernacle.

Her husband, Orville Broker, died in 1964.

Survivors include a son, Philip Broker of Spokane; three daughters, Tamara Broker of Spokane, Julia Newton of Olivehurst, Calif., and Pamela Broker of Sandpoint; a sister, Betty Whelham of Spokane; 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Alyce Brandvold Spokane

Memorial service for Alyce Reynolds Brandvold, 86, is scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday at Shadle Park Presbyterian Church. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Brandvold, a 52-year Spokane resident, died July 2.

She was born in Havre, Mont., and was a member of Shadle Park Presbyterian Church.

Mrs. Brandvold was a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband of 13 years, Rudy; a son, Jerry Reynolds of Spokane; a sister, Lillian Reynolds of Sandpoint; eight grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to Shadle Park Presbyterian Church.

Charles Hammon Spokane

Burial for Charles L. Hammon, 99, will be held in Lebanon, Ore. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Hammon, a 13-year Spokane resident, died Wednesday.

He was born in Lincoln, Ill., and served in the Army in France during World War II.

Mr. Hammon had previously lived in Lebanon, Ore., and worked as a mechanic.

Survivors include two sons, Wayne Hammon of Spokane and Donald Hammon of Alamogordo, N.M.; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren.

Audrey Scott Plummer, Idaho

Memorial service for Audrey N. Scott, 74, is planned for 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Plummer Senior Center. Inurnment will be at a later date at Goldenrod Cemetery in Tekoa, Wash. Kramer Funeral Home in Tekoa is in charge of arrangements.

Born in Sanders, Idaho, Mrs. Scott died Thursday.

She worked as a waitress in area restaurants for many years and in 1952 married Bruce Scott in Missoula.

They made their home in Plummer and operated a restaurant in Tensed, Idaho. In 1953 they moved to Pocatello, Idaho, where they lived until the late 1950s.

After several years in California, they moved in 1965 to Spokane where she helped her husband train race horses for the next 19 years. After retiring in 1985, they moved to Phoenix for five years and then in 1991 to Post Falls. They moved back to Plummer in 1993.

Mrs. Scott was a member of the Tillicum Rebekah Lodge No. 109 in Plummer and the Plummer Senior Citizens Club.

Her husband died in 1996.

Survivors include two sons, Billie Howard of Valley, Wash., and Brad Scott of Plummer; three daughters, Cheryl Gerling of Coeur d’Alene, Bonnie Hall of Portland and Cindy Miller of Deer Park; a sister, Alberta May Quincy of St. Maries; 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Bonnie Carruthers Spokane

Memorial service for Bonnie L. Carruthers will be at 3 p.m. today at the family home. Ball and Dodd Funeral Home - South is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Carruthers, who was born in Worland, Wyo., died Friday. She was 64.

She was raised in Kalispel, Mont., and graduated from Flathead High School there.

Mrs. Carruthers moved to Spokane in 1957 and worked as an executive housekeeper for both Red Lion Inns and Cavanaughs.

Survivors include three daughters, Denise Red and Lori Klassen, both of Spokane, and Charlotte Carruthers of Seattle; three sons, Douglas, William and Donald Carruthers, all of Spokane; two brothers, Larry Jones of Spokane and Floyd Jones of Kalispel; 13 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

Lulu Karlberg Bremerton

Graveside service for Lulu Z. Karlberg, 87, was Monday at Riverside Memorial Park.

Mrs. Karlberg, who was born in Spokane, died July 6.

In 1935, she married Kuno Karlberg in Newport, Wash., and they managed several apartment houses. She was also a homemaker.

Her husband died in 1983 and Mrs. Karlberg moved to Bremerton in 1984.

Survivors include 13 nieces and nephews and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.
