Romanov At Rest
They ruled Russia for three centuries, but members of the Romanov clan, including Prince Nikolai Romanovich Romanoc, above, came from places of exile on Tuesday to meet in St. Petersburg for one final act - the reburial of the last czar, Nicholas II, and his family. The royal family was executed by the Bolsheviks July 17, 1918. The remains, found seven years ago, will be moved to St. Petersburg today in an elaborate ceremony with the funeral planned for Friday, exactly 80 years after the executions. The Russian Orthodox Church has refused to recognize the bones as those of the czar, despite genetic tests in three countries, and, since the church won’t participate, President Boris Yeltsin has also decided to snub the reburial.
