Airtouch Cellular Adds Digital Service
AirTouch Cellular on Thursday added digital service to its decade-old analog cellular phone service in the Spokane area.
Vice President Joe Dodson said the $10 million system will provide the broadest coverage and best technology of all the cellular systems available in an area that was one of the first to receive digital technology.
The handsets, priced from $150 to $200, operate in digital and analog modes, he said. That capability will enable subscribers to use their phones in 5,500 American communities.
“With millions of customers on the existing cellular network, high-quality analog service will continue to be the backbone of the wireless industry,” Dodson said.
AirTouch Digital adds enhancements like e-mail and Internet messaging, he said.
Monthly service charges start at $30.
