Record Amount Donated To UI From Private, Corporate Sector

The University of Idaho has reached a record high of $14.5 million in private gift donations for the 1998 fiscal year which ended June 30.

Approximately 14,031 donors contributed a total of $14,551 million with $4.6 million specifically designated for scholarships.

The three largest private donations came from the estate of William and Carolyn Folz, with $1.5 million to establish a new scholarship endowment; Lyle and Sharon Parks of Lewiston established a trust to eventually provide scholarship funding for the Colleges of Agriculture and Engineering, general fund education, research and outreach programs, and a scholarship for Kendrick High School graduates; and Robert and Ruth Jensen established a trust which eventually will provide scholarships in the areas of science and mathematics education and the UI Scholars program.

The largest corporate sponsors included Jacklin Land Co. in Post Falls, which donated acreage along the Spokane River valued at $3.6 million; Boeing Co., donated $600,000 to as final payment on a $1.5 million pledge to the Engineering and Physics Campaign and matched employee gifts as well as funding engineering scholarships; and the J.A. and Kathryn Albertson Foundation made payments of $430,602 on a two-year grant to the College of Education to provide Idaho school districts with an organized process of implementation of total quality in their districts.
