Local Golfer Has Two Aces 11-Handicapper Has A Hole-In-One Twice At Indian Canyon
Next time, they’ll think twice about coaxing Mark Roff into the closest-to-the-pin contest.
Playing in a tournament sponsored by LeMaster and Daniels at Indian Canyon on Sunday, the 11-handicapper from Spokane made holes-in-one on both No. 4 and No. 11 - winning a pair of side pots he had no designs on with a brand of ball he didn’t want to play.
“Totally amazing,” marveled Roff, a 35-year-old broker for Sedgwick James. “I’ve never had a hole-in-one before. After the second one, it was pretty tough to finish the day.”
But he should have known there was going to be something special about this day from the start.
Roff was already 4 under par - eagle-birdie-birdie - when he pulled out his 8-iron at the par-3 fourth hole. He aced the 161-yard hole on the fly.
On the 105-yard 11th hole, Roff used a 9-iron - and put it in on one bounce.
“Then my arms turned into pipes,” said Roff, who wound up shooting 75.
Roff said he hadn’t intended getting in on any of the tournament’s many side pots, until someone talked him into “throwing in my couple of bucks.” Both No. 4 and No. 11, as it turned out, were closest-to-the-pin holes.
And as for the balls - both Titleist 100s - he’s keeping them.
“The funny thing is, I asked at the pro shop for a different ball,” he said, “and they told me this was all they had. Now, it’s probably what I’ll be playing for the rest of my life.”
