Man Attacked, Robbed At Night Depository

A robber hit a man with a baseball bat and stole his money late Sunday at a downtown bank night depository, police said.

Witnesses told police that the suspect sat near the U.S. Bank night depository at Riverside and Washington until a man walked up to the machine about 10 p.m., police said.

The suspect jumped out and swung the bat at the victim, who was knocked to the sidewalk. The victim dropped his deposit bag, which the suspect took before escaping north on Washington in a yellow Subaru station wagon, police said.

The victim was treated for his injuries and released from the hospital.

The suspect was described as black, in his early 30s, 5 feet 10 inches tall, 165 to 225 pounds, wearing a dark sweat shirt with a hood.
