High School Gave Us Memorable Experiences
Four years ago, Cheney High School moved the freshmen from the junior high into the high school. We were those freshmen. This was a terrifying realization to most of us and although we were scared, our excitement definitely took precedent.
Our high school career offered experiences that we didn’t know existed - there were titles to be claimed, awards to be won and, of course, crushes to be conquered. This was something new but we all found a niche somewhere, a niche that felt like it was made just for us. On the stage, on the field or, for some, in front of an easel.
When we started out, we didn’t know the rules. To be honest, most of us didn’t even understand the game. But as time progressed, we started to get the big picture, and by the time we reached our senior year, we had a pretty good understanding of the situation. At least we thought we did.
And as the time draws near and our ride together is coming to an end, we try to remember everything that ever meant anything to us these last four years. I don’t think any of us will ever forget halftime at the football games, with the sounds of Paul Simon serenading us to victory, or the Righteous Brothers, or Mr. Woody there to save the day … with a key, or a light bulb, or a smile.
With everything around us changing, one thing is clear; some of us will leave with heavy hearts, some will leave with light, but we all leave with a better understanding of where we’ve been and where we want to go.
