Five years ago: A Chinese freighter holding 300 illegal aliens ran aground off New York; up to ten Chinese died after jumping overboard. At the Tony Awards, “Kiss of the Spider Woman” won best musical; “Angels in America: Millennium Approaches,” won best play.
