Joel Stenson Spokane

Visitation for Joel Alvin Stenson will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at Riplinger Funeral Home. Funeral is set for 2 p.m. Friday at Central Lutheran Church. Burial will follow at Fairmount Memorial Park.

Mr. Stenson, a 52-year Spokane resident, died Monday. He was born in Finley, N.D.

He graduated from Sharon (N.D.) High School and served in the Army during World War II in the Pacific Theater and the Philippines.

Mr. Stenson was the owner and operator of Stenson and Sons Automotive Service for 40 years.

He was a member of Central Lutheran Church, where he was active in the choir and formerly with the church council. He was also a member of Eagles Lodge No. 2.

Survivors include his wife, June; two sons, Joel and Dale Stenson, both of Spokane; three brothers, Walter Stenson of Moorehead, Minn., Rudolph Stenson of Brooklyn Center, Minn., and Oswall Stenson of Finley; a sister, Louise Stenson of Finley; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to Central Lutheran Church.

Frances Morse Spokane

Vigil service for Frances V. Morse is scheduled for 7 p.m. today at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home. Funeral Mass is planned for 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Aloysius Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

A lifetime resident of Spokane, Mrs. Morse died Monday. She was 61.

Mrs. Morse was a homemaker and a member of St. Thomas More Parish and the Surburbanites.

Survivors include her husband of 21 years, David; a daughter, Christina Oiness of Woodinville, Wash.; three sons, Mitchell and James Pierce, both of Phoenix, and Robert Pierce of Coos Bay, Ore.; a stepdaughter, Debra Piper of Spokane; six stepsons, Gerald Morse of Spokane, Stacy, Ty, Peter and John Morse, all of Nine Mile Falls and Christopher Morse of Bellingham; a sister, Kathleen Vallance of Spokane; two brothers, Phillip Capato of Spokane and Robert Capato of Renton, Wash.; and 23 grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or to the Poor Clare Nuns.

Lawrence Rohrman Spokane

Funeral for G. Lawrence Rohrman, 88, will be at 9:30 a.m. today at St. Charles Catholic Church. Private burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Rohrman, who was born in Broadview, Mont., died Monday.

In 1937 he married Marie McDowell in Missoula. During World War II he served in the Army Air Corps and was stationed at what are now McCord and Fairchild Air Force bases.

Mr. Rohrman worked for Montgomery Wards in Kalispell, Mont., before moving to Spokane.

He worked for the Jensen-Byrd Co. as a buyer until later owning his own wholesale sporting goods store. He retired 20 years ago.

Mr. Rohrman was a member of St. Charles Parish, the Trap Club and the Spokane Rifle Club.

His wife died in 1985.

He is survived by a brother-in-law, Floyd McDowell, and several nieces and nephews.

Lucille ‘Jean’ O’Donley Spokane

Memorial service for Lucille “Jean” O’Donley, 74, will be held at a later date. Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. O’Donley, who was a 70-year resident of Spokane, died Monday.

She was born in Valley and worked as a sales person for J.C. Penney for many years.

Mrs. O’Donley was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Survivors include her husband of 10 years, Preston; three sons, Kenneth, David and Larry Johnston; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Joyce Mavioglu Spokane

Memorial service for Joyce Mavioglu, 62, will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Fairmount Memorial Park. The Cremation Society of Washington is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Mavioglu, who died Monday, was born in Houston.

She worked as a registered nurse at Holy Family Hospital and Sacred Heart Medical Center. She retired five years ago.

Survivors include her husband, Hilmi; a daughter, Neslihan Mavioglu of Spokane; and a son, Kurt Mavioglu of Spokane.

Josephine (Haddock) Empey Spokane

Visitation for Josephine (Haddock) Empey, 94, will be from 2 to 8 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to noon Friday at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home. Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Greenwood Memorial Terrace.

Mrs. Empey, a 15-year resident of Spokane County, died Saturday.

She was born in Ritzville, Wash., and was a homemaker.

Mrs. Empey was a member of the El Karnak Temple No. 6, Daughters of the Nile, and Ladies Oriental Lodge.

Her husband, Judd Empey, died in 1995.

Survivors include a daughter, Joan Harris of Marysville, Wash.; a son, Jerry Fox of Coldwater, Miss.; and two granddaughters.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children.

Goldie Tempero Spokane

Funeral for Goldie J. Tempero, 89, will be at 2 p.m today at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Fairmount Memorial Park.

Mrs. Tempero, who was born in Southwick, Idaho, died Sunday.

In 1925 she married Jack Tempero in Colfax, Wash.

She was a 32-year Spokane resident and was a homemaker.

Survivors include a son, Jack Tempero Jr.; two daughters, Joyce Marshall and Shirley Mitzimberg; a sister, Martha Sapp; 15 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.

Lydia Bakken Spokane

Funeral for Lydia Bakken, 95, is scheduled for noon today at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Fairmount Memorial Park.

Born in Ritzville, Wash., Mrs. Bakken died Monday.

She was a cook at the old Spokane/Coeur d’Alene Hotel and later bought the Grand Coulee Restaurant in the Grand Coulee Hotel.

She was a resident of Spokane county for 75 years.

Survivors include her husband of 50 years, Arnold; a daughter, Irene Hinshaw of Prescott, Ariz.; three grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.

Belle Johnson Spokane

Memorial service for Belle Lorraine Johnson, 93, is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Friday at Riverside Memorial Park Mausoleum. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Johnson, who was born in Spokane, died Tuesday.

She worked in the hardware business for many years.

Survivors include a sister, Dorothy Grove of Olympia.

Jason Tietz Spokane

Funeral for Jason M. Tietz, 24, will be at 1 p.m. today at Heritage Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Riverside Memorial Park.

Mr. Tietz, who was born in Bremerton, died in April.

He graduated in 1992 from Riverside High School and served in the Marine Corps.

Mr. Tietz worked as the manager at Thomas Hammer Coffee Roasting Co. and was a 15-year resident of Spokane.

Survivors include his companion, Crystal Halbig of Spokane; his father, Donald Tietz of Chattaroy; his mother, Jonnie Tietz of Baker City, Ore.; a brother, Adam Tietz of Chattaroy; and his grandmothers, Helen Tietz and Frances Ritter.

Bonnie Mullen Spirit Lake, Idaho

Memorial service for Bonnie J. Mullan, 72, will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Spirit Lake Baptist Church. Burial will be in St. Ignatius, Mont. English Funeral Chapel in Coeur d’Alene is in charge of arrangements.

Ms. Mullen, who was born in Casper, Wyo., died Sunday.

She grew up in Montana and then moved to Tacoma before settling in the Rathdrum area.

Ms. Mullen moved to Spirit Lake 20 years ago and was a member of Spirit Lake Baptist Church and the Senior Citizens Center.

Survivors include two sisters, Judy Cady of Blanchard, Idaho, and Betty Erdahl of Spirit Lake; and three brothers, James Mullen of Newman Lake, Elmer Mullen of Pennsylvania and Willard Mullen of Wyoming.

Vera Spadafore Spokane

Funeral Mass for Vera M. Spadafore will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. John Vianney Catholic Church. Burial will be held at a later date at Calvary Cemetery in Tacoma. Hennessey Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Spadafore, a former longtime resident of Seattle, died Monday. She was 81.

She was born in San Francisco and moved to Tacoma as an infant.

In 1937 she married Alvin Spadafore, and they moved to Seattle. She lived there until 1993, when she moved to Spokane.

Mrs. Spadafore was employed in Seattle as a seamstress with Judy Frocks and Shamucks. She later worked for Boeing until her retirement in the early 1970s.

She was a member of the Aeromechanics Union, Sacred Heart Catholic Church, St. Matthew’s Catholic Church and the Elks Ladies Auxiliary.

Her husband died in 1992.

Survivors include a daughter, Sharon Gray of Spokane; a sister, Irene Olson of Alameda, Calif.; and a granddaughter.

Nancy Everhart Otis Orchards

Memorial service for Nancy E. Everhart is set for 1 p.m. Friday at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1474. Hennessey Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Ms. Everhart, who was born in Dunlo, Pa., died Monday. She was 57.

She served in the Army from 1960 to 1962 and then worked for Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1474 as the bingo manager and assistant club manager.

Ms. Everhart was a 34-year resident of Spokane.

Survivors include her companion, Sharon Thompson of Otis Orchards; two sisters, Ruth Fleming of Otis Orchards and Audrey Kolar of Streetsboro, Ohio; and two brothers, Richard Everhart of Johnstown, Pa., and Joseph Everhart of Mercer, Pa.

Louise Cochran Calder, Idaho

No service will be held for Louise Faye Cochran, 68, at the family’s request. Yates Funeral Home in Coeur d’Alene is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Cochran, who was born in Cambridge, Idaho, died Tuesday.

She grew up in Central Idaho and lived in Emmett, Idaho, for many years before moving to the Calder area. Survivors include her husband of 31 years, Kenneth; a son, Gordon Sanders of Coeur d’Alene; a daughter, Judy Sanders of Oregon; a stepson, Keith Cochran of Texas; a stepdaughter, Karen Cotton of Hauser Lake, Idaho; a brother, Robert Hobson of Emmett; two sisters, Marlene Folkman of Twin Falls, Idaho, and Marilyn “Mimi” Mullen of Camas, Wash.; 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Robert Kimsey Spokane

No service will be held for Robert L. Kimsey, 72, at his request. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Kimsey, a 60-year resident of Spokane, died Tuesday.

He was born in Yakima and served in the Navy during World War II.

Mr. Kimsey worked as a carpenter in the construction industry.

Survivors include two daughters, Gayle Kimsey of Spokane and Laurie Heagle of Cheney; a brother, John Kimsey of Spokane; a sister, Carol Blick of Spokane; and three grandchildren.
