Ax Wielder Sentenced To Jail Time
A Post Falls man accused of terrorizing his ex-wife and her new boyfriend with an ax on Christmas Eve will spend 15 days in jail, a judge decided Thursday.
Christopher Huckaby pleaded guilty to malicious injury to property when prosecutors agreed to drop an aggravated assault charge.
First District Judge Charles Hosack sentenced Huckaby to serve at least two years of a five-year prison term and then suspended it. The judge also ordered Huckaby to spend 180 days in the county jail, giving him credit for the 165 days he has already served, and placed him on probation for four years.
Prosecutors allege Huckaby showed up at his ex-wife’s house with an ax on Christmas Eve. He slammed the ax through her bedroom window when her boyfriend pulled back the blinds to peak out.
Amanda Huckaby called police. Her then-boyfriend, Jarrod Schaper, was not injured in the attack. Christopher Huckaby returned a few hours later after police left the home, Schaper said.
The incident resulted from a custody dispute, Huckaby said before being sentenced. He claimed Schaper was the aggressor and he wielded the ax to defend his 4-year-old son, who was in the car.
Schaper has not been charged with a crime. He and Amanda Huckaby have married since the attack.
