Martin Christenson Spokane

Martin Christenson, born June 12, 1898, in Northfield, Minn., celebrates his 100th birthday today.

His family moved to the Inland Northwest when he was 5 years old, and he’s lived in Spokane for 59 years.

In 1922 he married Elsie Christenson, who died in 1988.

Christenson worked at the Carmen Mattress factory from 1920 until 1952, and then for Sylvan Furniture until he retired in 1963.

His children are Don Christenson and Dorothea Haskins, both of Spokane; Adrian Christenson, San Jose, Calif.; and the late Herbert Christenson.

He has six grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Christenson attributes his longevity to “a good clean life, lots of hard work, gardening and fresh air.”
