Navy Close To Picking Carrier Sites
The Navy next month expects to release its proposal on aircraft carriers to be based in the Northwest, the commander-in-chief of the U.S. Pacific Fleet says.
Adm. Archie Clemins said Friday that the Navy will recommend whether to base two or three carriers in Puget Sound and whether they should be at Bremerton, Everett, or both.
The proposal is part of a draft environmental impact statement now undergoing final review by top Navy officials. Clemins said the proposal will be followed by public hearings.
Clemins made the remarks to 400 delegates at the Navy League of the United States convention.
He also confirmed the Navy still wants to build a new carrier pier in Bremerton.
