Obituaries

Elizabeth Haddox Spokane

Rosary service for Elizabeth M. Haddox, 76, will be at 7:30 p.m. today at St. Joseph’s Cemetery Chapel. Memorial service is planned for 11 a.m. Tuesday at the chapel. The Cremation Society of Washington is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Haddox, who was born in Rosalia, Wash., died Thursday.

She graduated from Colfax (Wash.) High School in 1943 and served with the Army during World War II.

Mrs. Haddox came to Spokane in 1951 and was a member of the American Legion, Catholic Daughters of America, Eagles Lodge No. 2 and St. Francis Xavier Parish.

Survivors include two daughters, Cathy Gunderson of Spokane and Joan Deets of Corpus Christi, Texas; two brothers, John Chesnut of Spokane and Andrew Chesnut of Colfax; two sisters, Morita Chesnut of Spokane and Ruth Thomas of Mount Vernon, Wash.; seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to Morning Star Boys Ranch.

Lydia Anderson Spokane

Visitation for Lydia A. Anderson, 92, will be from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at Ball and Dodd Funeral Home North. Funeral is planned for 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Fairmount Memorial Park.

Mrs. Anderson, who died Thursday, was born in Bellingham.

She came to Spokane in 1907 and graduated from Hillyard High School in 1923.

In 1925 she married Carol Anderson and worked for J.C. Penney in the fabric department for 44 years. She retired in 1970.

Mrs. Anderson was a member the Ivanhoe Chapter No. 80 of the Order of the Eastern Star, Trinity Court Order of Amaranth, Woodman of the World, Bethel White Shrine Chapter No. 6 of Jerusalem and the Pillars.

Her husband died in 1976.

Survivors include numerous nieces and nephews.

George Suzuki Marcus, Wash.

Memorial service for George R. Suzuki, 81, will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Heritage Funeral Home.

Mr. Suzuki, who was born in Havre, Mont., died Thursday.

He graduated from the Chef’s Institute of America and was former president of the Chefs de Cuisine Society.

Mr. Suzuki was a chef at the Flamingo Restaurant and later worked for many years as the executive chef at The Davenport Hotel. He retired 18 years ago and moved to Marcus.

He was a resident of Spokane for more than 60 years.

Survivors include a daughter, Anna Emery of Bellevue, Wash.; a son, George Suzuki of Vancouver, Wash.; and five grandchildren.

George Olive Yakima

Graveside inurnment for George E. Olive, 87, will be at 1 p.m. today at West Hills Memorial Park in Yakima. Keith and Keith Funeral Home of Yakima is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Olive, who was born in Fayette, Ala., died Thursday.

He worked as a meat cutter most of his life and, during the 1930s, he played semi-professional baseball with the Nashville Vols.

In 1937 he married Myra Puckett in Nashville, Tenn., and they moved to Spokane. In 1955 they moved to Metaline Falls, Wash.

They lived in Metaline Falls for 35 years before moving to Yakima eight years ago.

Mr. Olive was a member of the American Legion.

His wife preceded him in death.

Survivors include a daughter, Janis Anderwald of Yakima; a son, Gary Olive of San Francisco; a sister, Flora Underwood of Danville, Ark.; and two grandchildren.

Wallace ‘Bud’ McPherson Clarkston, Wash.

Graveside service for Wallace Russell “Bud” McPherson, 75, will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Greenwood Cemetery in Palouse, Wash. Kramer Funeral Home in Palouse is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. McPherson, who was born in Sangerville, Maine, died Friday.

He graduated from Sangerville High School then served with the Marine Corps during World War II. He received an Air Medal and a Gold Star.

In 1950 he married Gloria Hall in Sangerville and later moved to the Palouse area.

Mr. McPherson worked for Washington State University for 30 years and moved to Clarkston after his retirement.

He was a member of the Moose Lodge.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Russ McPherson of Clarkston; three daughters, Sandy Tweit of Lewiston and Kathy Reugh and Judy Miller, both of Spokane; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Davetta Ihle Hayden, Idaho

Memorial service for Davetta Jean Ihle, 66, will be held at a later date in North Dakota. Coeur d’Alene Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements.

Mrs. Ihle, who was born in North Dakota, died Wednesday.

She lived in California from 1955 until 1991 and later moved to Hayden, Idaho, to be near family.

Survivors include her husband, Peter; a son, David Ihle of Newman Lake, Wash.; her parents, Obert and Faye Thorson of North Dakota; a brother, Billy Thorson, and a sister, Betty Stockman, both of North Dakota; and two grandchildren.
