Awards Given For Service To Goodwill Industries

Goodwill Industries of the Inland Northwest recently honored several businesses, volunteers, and employees for outstanding service.

McCain’s Foods Inc., Othello was honored for exceptional hiring, training and retention of disabled or disadvantaged workers.

Other awards went to Barb Saling, Volunteer of the Year; Helen Hazen Rymond, Outstanding Board Member; Patrick Morris, Spokane, Floyd Bowers Memorial Award for Outstanding Performance; and Robert Deering, Moses Lake, Empire Floral Graduate of the Year.

The late John Breeden, co-owner of Empire Floral Nursery and a Goodwill contributor, was given a special tribute.

Washington Water Power recently awarded $1,500 scholarships to high school students through the WWP Mindpower Generation Scholarship Program. Winners included:

Beau Beckley, a 1998 graduate of Ritzville (Wash.) High School and the son of Camara and Doug Beckley. He plans to attend Eastern Washington University.

Rachel Harrison is a 1998 graduate of Central Valley High School and the daughter of David and Patricia Harrison.

Nickolaus J. Saba, son of Mark and Karen Saba, is a 1998 graduate of West Valley High School.

Amy Kristine Stearns is the daughter of Roy and Sharon Stearns and a 1998 graduate of Sprague (Wash.) High School. She will attend Eastern Washington University.

The Pages of Harmony, Spokane’s chapter of the Barbershop Harmony Society, placed first in Division 5 competition at Whitworth College in March. The group will compete in the Evergreen District competition in Eugene, Ore., in October.
