Kocher To Lead Micron Electronics
Micron Electronics Inc., the No. 3 direct seller of personal computers, said it promoted Joel Kocher to chairman and chief executive to replace Joseph Daltoso, who resigned.
Kocher, 42, was named president and chief operating officer in January. Daltoso, 36, who joined chipmaker Micron Technology Inc. in 1984 and has headed Micron Electronics since its creation in 1995, will stay on as a consultant for an indefinite period to ensure a smooth transition.
Micron Electronics’ sales and earnings have tumbled in the past year as prices for PCs plummeted, forcing it to cut 10 percent of its work force. Kocher, who was recruited from Power Computing Corp. and previously worked at No. 1 direct PC seller Dell Computer Corp., is credited with cutting costs and helping Micron Electronics beat earnings expectations in its fiscal third quarter.
