WSU Hires New Dean
Wayne State University English professor Barbara Couture has been chosen dean of Washington State University’s College of Liberal Arts, officials announced Tuesday.
Couture, a former Wayne State administrator, replaces John Pierce, who resigned to accept a position at the University of Colorado, WSU Provost Gretchen Bataille said.
Couture received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Michigan in 1970 and later master’s and doctoral degrees from the school.
She joined the Wayne State faculty in 1979 and was appointed a full professor in the English department in 1994.
She served as associate dean of metropolitan programs and summer sessions at Wayne State from 1993-97 and was associate dean for curriculum in 1990-91.
Couture has written five books on technical and professional writing.
