We’D Have Fun, Fun, Fun Picking Oldies’ Playlist
After complaining in Tuesday’s column about oldies stations boring Spokane area radio listeners with uninspired playlists, we heard from Beau Tyler at Oldies 101.
He was completely gracious. And he made us an intriguing offer.
He said we could pick a handful of songs we think his station ought to play and then go on the air with him some morning.
It’s tempting.
But before pursuing this, we want to consult with our advisers (aka Slice readers). What oldies would YOU like to hear?
To tell the truth, all we really had in mind was the idea that it might be nice to hear “Caroline, No” once in a while instead of “Fun, Fun, Fun” or “Surfin’ U.S.A.”
But inasmuch as Tyler was decent enough to be a good sport, it seems the least we can do is give this some more attention.
And who knows? Maybe we can spend the rest of the summer going from radio station to radio station, offering our own ridiculously biased critiques of format after format.
Stay tuned.
Share those self-important memos: If, without getting in trouble, you can make a copy of the most hilariously puffed up “While I’m on vacation” note produced by anyone at your workplace, we would love to see it.
(We won’t reveal your identity, the memo writer’s identity or the name of the business.)
Local guys who can call a stranger “Hoss” and pull it off: Readers tapped Scott Davidson and Bill Pickett.
Reader challenge: Name three celebrities besides Mariah Carey who, if you were driving across the country with them, probably would need to be shoved out of the car before you got to your destination.
Feedback: A reader suggested that we rethink our comment about the TV-version of Ozzie Nelson not being a realistic dad because he didn’t wear sweatpants and T-shirts. “Most ‘50s fathers didn’t,” she said.
She’s right, of course. We should have said Ozzie wasn’t realistic because he never went to work.
Counting swimsuits: A reader named Cliff called to report on his wife Mary’s current collection of suits. Here’s the breakdown.
Thong: 26 suits
Bikini: 14 suits
One piece: 3 suits
Misc. other styles: 4 suits
We’re sure Mary would be thrilled to learn Cliff had been rummaging around in her swimsuit drawers.
Today’s Slice question: What local backyard pool has been used by the most people over the years?
