John Crofoot Mead
Graveside service and burial for John Crofoot, 81, is planned for 11 a.m. today at Peone Prairie Cemetery. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
A lifetime resident of Spokane, Mr. Crofoot died Wednesday.
He was in the Mount Spokane Ski Patrol for 25 years and was a 60-year Grange member.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Velma; three sons, John Crofoot Jr. of Spokane, Charles Crofoot of Oakview, Calif., and Steven Crofoot of Sandy, Utah; a stepson, Eldon Larkin of Tustin, Calif.; two daughters, Sharon Haroldson of Idaho Falls and Karen Casos of Winnemucca, Nev.; a stepdaughter, Nona Gallacher of Provo, Utah; 31 grandchildren and 45 great-grandchildren.
Doris Lovlien Spokane
Funeral for Doris Phyllis Lovlien is scheduled for 3 p.m. today at Hope Lutheran Church in Greenacres. Burial will be at a later date at the U.L. Cemetery in Pigeon Falls, Wis. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Lovlien, a 40-year resident of Spokane, died Wednesday. She was 73.
She graduated in 1942 from Lewis and Clark High School and then worked for The Crescent and Bon Marche department stores.
Mrs. Lovlien was a member of Hope Lutheran Church.
Survivors include her husband of 55 years, Erling; two daughters, Melanie Deiss of Gresham, Ore., and Laurie Olin of Vancouver, Wash.; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Roger Hodgson Spokane
Memorial service for Roger Herbert Hodgson, 78, will be at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at the San Souci West Mobile Home Park Community Building. The Cremation Society of Washington is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Hodgson, who was born in Tekoa, Wash., died Monday.
He graduated in 1937 from high school in Salem, Ore., and then in 1946 from Washington State College. In 1971 he completed his master’s degree in education from Whitworth College.
Mr. Hodgson worked for 18 years as a pharmaceutical representative and for 20 years for Spokane Community College until his retirement in 1989. He served as the chairman of the mathematics and science departments and was an chemistry instructor.
He was a member of the American Chemical Society and the American Society for Advancement of Science.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Norma Burk Hodgson; a son, Allen Hodgson of Spokane; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Harry Baldwin Spokane
No service will be held for Harry M. “Bud” Baldwin, 85, at his request. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Baldwin, who graduated from Lewis and Clark High School, died Wednesday.
He was born in Spokane and worked as a meat cutter and then in sales.
Mr. Baldwin joined the Spokane Fire Department in 1942 and then worked as a firefighter in dispatch and inspection.
Following his retirement in 1967, he operated a fuel oil distribution company and a trophy business.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Genevieve; two daughters, Janice Kelsey of Spokane and Joanne Baldwin of San Diego; a son, Jerry Baldwin of Kirkland, Wash.; a brother, Robert Baldwin of Spokane; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Carol Klinke Spokane
Memorial service for Carol B. Klinke, 70, will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Klinke, who was born in Rawson, N.D., died Thursday.
She moved to Spokane in 1976 and was the owner and operator of Church’s Fried Chicken, Rax Restaurant and Granny’s Buffet.
Survivors include her husband of 46 years, Paul; two sons, Greg and Brent Klinke, both of Spokane; a daughter, Paula Gualtieri of Bothell, Wash.; a brother, Warren Ruetten of Phoenix; two sisters, Margie Wrolson of Williston, N.D., and Joan Perkins of Minot, N.D.; and seven grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or to Boys Town.
Margaret (Stolz) Haggin Spokane
Memorial service for Margaret M. (Stolz) Haggin, 88, is planned for 2 p.m. Sunday at her home on the Little Spokane River. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Haggin, who was born in Spokane, died June 19.
She graduated in 1927 from West Valley High School and in 1943 from Eastern Washington State College of Education.
Mrs. Haggin worked for the Washington state welfare office from 1930 to 1936, was a teacher in the Mead School District for two years, and retired in 1970 from Spokane School District 81 after 23 years, finishing at Glover Junior High.
She was a charter member of the Spokane Federation of Teachers and of the Spokane Audubon Society, in which she was president and office holder many times, as well as chairman of the Education Committee for more than 15 years.
Mrs. Haggin was also a founding member of the Washington Environmental Council and was its Environmentalist of the Year in 1982.
She received numerous honors and recognitions from the Spokane Conservation District, the Sierra Club and the Audubon Society and was involved in the creation of the Little Spokane River Natural Area.
Mrs. Haggin started the Spokane County Environmental and Learning Center and donated her home and land to the Spokane County Park System for nature study.
She was a Women’s Club champion at Indian Canyon golf course, was an age-group winner in the No Alibi ski race at Mount Spokane, was an age-group winner in Bloomsday and had also been a school volunteer for many years.
Survivors include a son, Bart Haggin of Spokane; a brother, three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Peace and Justice Action League of Spokane or the Spokane Audubon Society.
Florence Elvester Sandpoint
Memorial service for Florence E. Elvester, 71, will be Sunday from noon to 3 p.m. at 1600 State Highway 200 in Ponderay, Idaho. Coffelt Funeral Service in Sandpoint is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Elvester, who was born in Minnesota, died Tuesday.
She grew up and graduated from high school in Minnesota and then lived in Bremerton and Spokane before moving to Sandpoint in 1971.
Mrs. Elvester worked at Litehouse Dressing from 1987 until 1998.
She was a member of the Lutheran church in Minnesota.
Her husband of 50 years, Nels, preceded her in death.
Survivors include three sons, Darrell, Gary and Jess Elvester, all of Sandpoint; four brothers; two sisters; and one granddaughter, Danielle.
Marguerite Starks Spokane
Funeral for Marguerite G. Starks, 88, is set for 1 p.m. Monday at Riplinger Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Riverside Memorial Park.
Mrs. Starks, a 60-year Spokane resident, died Wednesday.
She was born in Wisconsin Rapids, Wis.
She worked as a rate clerk for B.J. Carney Co. and retired in 1974.
Mrs. Starks was a member of Lidgerwood Presbyterian Church for more than 50 years.
Her husband, Jack Starks, died in 1970.
Survivors include a son, Thomas Starks, and a daughter, Elizabeth Starks, both of Spokane, and a grandson.

Jane (Babcock) LeMay Spokane
Burial Mass for Jane A. (Babcock) LeMay, 92, will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Lourdes. The Cremation Society of Washington is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. LeMay, who was born in Mount Clemens, Mich., died Wednesday.
She lived in Pasadena, Calif., for 45 years before moving to Spokane 16 years ago.
Mrs. LeMay was a homemaker and was active in social and civic affairs in Pasadena.
Survivors include her husband of 68 years, Leonard; two daughters, Mary Ann Shine of Spokane and Sallie Bradford of Annapolis, Md.; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Spokane.
George Taylor Spokane
Funeral for George L. Taylor, a 40-year resident of Spokane, will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-North. Burial will follow at Fairmount Memorial Park.
Mr. Taylor, who was born in Longview, Wash., died Wednesday. He was 67.
He graduated in 1948 from Long High School in Longview and served in the Army during the Korean War.
Mr. Taylor lived in Eugene, Ore., Longview and Moscow, Idaho, until moving to Spokane in 1957.
He worked for five years at Jensen-Byrd Hardware Co. and in 1962 opened the print shop at Sacred Heart Medical Center.
Mr. Taylor retired in 1994. He volunteered with the Bloomsday race for 16 years.
He was a member of Garland Avenue Alliance Church and sang in its choir for 20 years. He was a member of the board of trustees for the Spokane Youth Sports Association, taking part in the football and soccer programs.
Survivors include his companion, Catherine Milliron of Spokane; three sons, Edward Taylor of Spokane, Franklin Taylor of Deer Park and Paul Taylor of Chattaroy; a daughter, Nancy Carter of Everett; a sister, Lucy Gregg of Bellevue, Wash.; and 10 grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Garland Avenue Alliance Church Building Fund or to the Spokane Youth Sports Association.
Vivian Fry Spokane
Memorial service for M. Vivian Fry, 93, is scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday at Manito Presbyterian Church. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Fry, who died Wednesday, was born in Philadelphia.
She moved to Spokane in 1910 and was a member, choir member and elder of Manito Presbyterian Church. She was also active in the Stephen Ministry and was a member of the Manito Garden Club.
Mrs. Fry worked as an office manager in the insurance industry.
Her husband of 62 years, Ben Fry, died in 1989.
Survivors include two daughters, Jeannie Hubbard of Spokane and Fay Moncrief of Ephrata, Wash.; 12 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Michael Johnson Spokane
Burial for Michael L. Johnson, 50, will be at a later date. The Cremation Society of Washington is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Johnson, a 25-year Spokane resident, died Tuesday.
He was born in Walla Walla and graduated from DeSales High School there.
Mr. Johnson graduated from Spokane Community College with a culinary arts degree and worked in area restaurants as a chef.
Survivors include his twin sister, Kathleen Vlahovich of Spokane; and a brother, Patrick Johnson of Austin, Texas.

Anna Pankretz Chewelah, Wash.
Memorial service for Anna Elizabeth Pankretz, 94, will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the United Church of Christ in Chewelah. Inurnment will be at a later date in Santa Clara, Calif. Schazenbach Funeral Home in Chewelah is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Pankretz, a 20-year resident of the Colville, Wash., and Chewelah areas, died Wednesday.
She was born in Lathrop, Mo., and moved with her family to California at an early age. She was raised in Orange Cove, Calif.
In 1918 she married Frank Pankretz in Reedly, Calif., and they lived in Los Gatos, Calif., until his death in 1956.
Mrs. Pankretz was the chief floor lady at Hunt’s Cannery in Campbell, Calif., for four years. After living in Bend, Ore., for several years, she moved to Colville and then Chewelah. She was a past noble grand of the Rebekah Lodge in Campbell and was active in the TOPS Club, the Rebekah Lodge and the Methodist Church in Chewelah.
Survivors include two sons, Harvey Pankretz of Colville and Loyal Pankretz of Irvine, Calif.; a sister, Dorothy Perry of Porterville, Calif.; a half-sister, Hope Sailors of Porterville; nine grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Virgil Moore Deer Park
Memorial service for Virgil Kenneth Moore, 76, is scheduled for 11 a.m. Monday at Open Door Congregational Church in Deer Park. Lauer Funeral Home in Deer Park is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Moore, who was born in Mandan, N.D., died Tuesday.
He served in the Army during World War II and saw combat in the South Pacific.
Mr. Moore resided in Pleasant Hill, Calif., for 31 years and worked at Mare Island Naval Shipyards in Vallejo, Calif., as a marine electrician.
He moved to Deer Park in 1981 and was a member of the Senior Citizen League there.
Survivors include his wife, Ruby; a daughter, Diane Walker of Pleasant Hill; a son, David Moore of Deer Park; three sisters, Faith Hearst and Doris Zerbini, both of Pacheco, Calif., and Mary Lucky of Concord, Calif.; two brothers, Carroll Moore of Walnut Creek, Calif., and Roslyn Moore of Pacheco, Calif.; and three grandchildren.
