Hatley Wins Tournament

Ferris’ Reid Hatley and Michael Hastings of Spokane Community Colleges each qualified for the United States Golf Association Junior Amateur National Championship tournament.

Hatley, who plays out of Manito Golf and Country Club carded a 68-65-133 to take medalist honors at a qualifying tourney held at Manito.

Hastings finished with a 67-71-138 and placed second.

Manito’s Corey Prugh and Greg LaVoie, of Richland’s Meadow Springs Country Club, qualified as alternates.

The USGA National Championships will be held July 21-25 at Conway Farms Golf Club in Lake Forest, Ill.

Reichman, Cox spark Stars

Heather Reichman tossed in 21 points and Tekoa-Oakesdale’s Heather Cox added 15 points and seven rebounds to lead the Spokane Stars 17-U girls basketball to an 88-70 drubbing of the Iowa Swoosh at the AAU national championships in Indianapolis on Monday.

The Stars (4-0) play a team from Alabama today at 1 p.m.

The Spokane Stars 16-U team dropped their fourth straight game, losing to Indiana’s Best 86-64.

Natalie Jarrett scored 12 points to lead the Stars, while Shaylia Davis chipped in with 10 points.

Beth Roederer and Nok Doany each scored 20 points for Indiana. Teammate Carrie Stire his 13 of 14 free throws and finished with 19 points.

The Stars play Southwest Texas today.

UI lands two golfers

The University of Idaho men’s golf team has two new members, coach Don Rasmussen announced.

They are Tom Larsen of Murrieta, Calif., and Ron Diack, of Langely, B.C. As a freshman, Larsen was the MVP of Saddleback Community College’s (Mission Viejo, Calif.) team. Diack was seventh at the B.C. junior championships.
