Markets In Russia Take Steep Dive

Russian markets plummeted Monday amid fears of a ruble devaluation, despite repeated assurances from President Boris Yeltsin’s government that it would protect the currency.

While parliament considered an economic austerity plan, markets and government bonds took a dive.

The Russian Trading System’s stock index plunged 6.1 percent at the close.
