UI Aims To Finish Ag Building

From Staff

The University of Idaho has kicked off a $4 million campaign to complete the $16 million agriculturebiotechnology building.

The Unlocking Nature’s Potential campaign was launched Monday from the state Capitol with a $1 million donation from CTT Land and Livestock President Tom Nicholson and $500,000 from the Simplot Co.

The Idaho Wheat Commission has given $400,000, United Dairymen of Idaho $100,000 and J.R. Simplot and his wife, Esther, $100,000.

“A strong agriculture industry in Idaho is a legacy we would like to preserve and we believe that the key to that success is research,” Nicholson said.

The federal government has committed $6.4 million to the project and the state contribution will hit just over $5.3 million with another $1 million allocation in the new budget that takes effect on Wednesday.

In addition to the biotechnology building, the project involves renovation of the current Agriculture College building in Moscow and development of a aquaculture research center in southern Idaho.
