Ex-Legislator Dies

Former state legislator Jerry Vrooman has died after a long battle with cancer. He was 56.

Vrooman died Thursday at his home here.

He was elected to two terms in the state House in 1976 and 1978, representing the 40th District, which then was made up of Skagit and San Juan counties and part of Whatcom County.

He also was campaign manager for Democrat Booth Gardner’s successful bid to become governor, and was a consultant for other candidates.
