The San Francisco 49ers’ backfield is not big enough for both Garrison Hearst and Terry Kirby.

Two weeks after the 49ers awarded Hearst a five-year, $15.1 million contract extension, Kirby was granted permission to begin looking for a new team and a chance for a starting job.
