Las Vegas 400 Will Bring Out Wild And Woolly Day Of Racing
Although at times it gets lost in the business of the sport, stock car drivers love racing.
That’s one reason why it seems everybody in the 43-car lineup is excited about today’s inaugural Las Vegas 400 on the 1-mile oval at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
According to the Winston Cup stars, the wide, virtually flat track should be just about perfect for pure racing.
“It’s going to be one of the best, if not the best, Winston Cup races we’ve seen in a long time,” said Dale Jarrett, who will start from the pole in the 400-mile race. “You’re going to see some wild racing on the frontstretch because of how wide it is.
“The surface is smooth as it can be. It’s three lanes wide. The transition from the banking to the straightaways is really good. When you give us a track like this, you’re going to see some real race action.”
Darrell Waltrip, a three-time Winston Cup champion, agreed.
“It’ll be three and four wide going into turn one and single file going out of there,” he said. “It’ll be exciting.”
Spokane’s Chad Little lines up in the 17th position for the race.
