Brandon Smith Earns Eagle Scout Award
Brandon Smith, a member of Colville (Wash.) Boy Scout Troop 921, has received his Eagle Scout award.
For his Eagle service project, Smith coordinated the construction and installation of a playground at the United Methodist Church in Colville.
He is a junior at Colville Senior High School.
Four Spokane residents recently graduated from military training at Fort Leonard Wood in Waynesville, Mo.: Army Reserve Pfc. Patrick Skelton graduated from One Station Unit Training. He is the son of Eric and Sharon Skelton of Spokane and is a 1997 Ferris High School graduate.
Army Pvt. Katherine Brauer, daughter of Michael and Roberta Brauer, Spokane, graduated from basic military training at Fort Wood.
Army National Guard Pvt. Christopher Mattingly, son of Sam Mattingly, Spokane, graduated basic military training.
Army Pvt. Paul Allen, , son of Delores and Steven Neill of Spokane, graduated from basic military training. Allen graduated in 1997 from University High School and Spokane Community College.
Five Spokane-area students majoring in music at Eastern Washington University have received scholarships for the 1997-98 academic year:
Christa Gray, Veradale, received a $1,500 Charles P. Lund Scholarship.
Gray, a sophomore at EWU, sings in the chamber, symphonic and Collegians choirs.
She is the daughter of Darrell and Carol Klein, Spokane, and a 1996 graduate of Central Valley High School.
Lisa Sousa, an EWU graduate student, received an $800 Woodrow Van Fredenberg Scholarship for music majors who place an emphasis on woodwind instruments.
Sousa, daughter of Ruth Lenke, Spokane, is a 1988 graduate of Central Valley High school.
Heidi Cutler, Nine Mile Falls, also received an $800 Woodrow Van Fredenberg Scholarship.
Cutler is a member of EWU’s wind ensemble and marching band.
She is the daughter of Kit and Debora Cutler and a 1995 graduate of Lakeside High School.
Laurie Watkins, Spokane, received a $250 Charles P. Lund Scholarship.
Watkins is the daughter of Lester Givens and Lauren McKay of Spokane.
Andrea Sinclair, Veradale, received a $700 Charles P. Lund Scholarship.
Sinclair, majoring in vocal performance, is a member of the Spokane Symphony Chorale and EWU’s Collegians jazz group.
She is the daughter of George and Zdenka Sinclair and a 1994 graduate of Central Valley High School.
