Familyfest Will Offer Taste Of ‘Soup To Nuts’ Pop Art

The Cheney Cowles Museum and the Spokane Children’s Museum are teaming up to present the latest FamilyFest on Saturday.

The Cheney Cowles Museum will host the event, which will feature several hands-on activities related to the “Soup to Nuts: Pop Art and Its Legacy” exhibit that opens Friday at the museum.

Activities will include coloring a picture of pop artist Andy Warhol, redesigning a dollar bill, and creating pop art out of basic paper shapes. The event will run from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Saturday’s FamilyFest is also a Spokane Food Bank day, as are the next three FamilyFest’s scheduled for the first Saturday in April, May and June. Each person who brings three cans of Campbell’s soup for the Spokane Food Bank will receive free museum admission, which includes the FamilyFest activities, admission to all exhibits, and a tour of the adjacent 1898 Campbell House.

Warhol will be the subject of this week’s Wednesday Night Lecture. The free program will feature a video called “Portrait of an Artist: Andy Warhol.”

His career included film, publishing, rock music and television, but he is known best for his paintings of common objects.

Three of Warhol’s paintings, including his “Noodle O’s” featuring a Campbell’s soup can, will be included in the pop art exhibit, which will be on display through June 14.

Museum admission is $4 for adults, $3 for seniors and $2.50 for students. Children under age 6 are admitted free.

Wednesdays are half price from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. and free from 5-9 p.m.

The museum, at 2316 W. First, is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursday through Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Wednesdays, and from 1 to 5 p.m. on Sundays.
