Post Falls Council Oks Wastewater Plan

From Staff And Wire Reports

Increasing the city wastewater treatment plant’s efficiency and capacity will cost about $1.14 million, but will save the city money in the long run, city officials say.

The plan, approved by the City Council Tuesday night, will increase the plant’s capacity by 1.3 million gallons per day, said public works director Bill Madigan.

It will also save the city about $65,000 in electricity bills every year, he said.

Because it will save about 1.3 million kilowatt hours of electricity per year, Washington Water Power will pitch in $53,830 of the cost as part of an incentive for the city to enact the plan.

Brown and Caldwell, an engineering firm, will design physical improvements to the plant that will allow it to run fewer motors to aerate the waste it treats, which will in turn cut down on the amount of electricity the plant uses.

The project will pay for itself in 15 years, city officials say.
