Whatever Mama Wants, Madonna Surely Will Get

Compiled By Staff Writer Dan Web

This may be unfair… but, hey, all’s fair when it comes to Madonna, who sat down to talk with Los Angeles Times music critic Robert Hilburn.

And naturally the conversation turned to her 16-month-old daughter, Lourdes Maria. When she said the toddler’s nickname was Lola, Hilburn couldn’t resist asking, “And does Lola get whatever Lola wants?”

“Nope,” Madonna said with a laugh. “I do spoil her, but I have my boundaries.”

Good answer. But about the unfair part? Simple. In the course of the interview, Madonna said that Lola has changed her priorities. No way was she going on a year-long tour. Then, almost immediately, she revealed her future plans: a movie, she said, and…

“After that, I plan to go on tour, which will take me to the end of the year.” Which, you understand, is a full nine months away…

Loose talk

Sean Connery on his being denied a knighthood (in the Chicago Tribune): “Whether or not I should have a knighthood is entirely in the hands of what appear to be mysterious people. It is not my responsibility to attempt to explain who decides what, why or wherefore. It’s like dealing with smoke.”

Question is, where did her career go?

Mary Wilson turns 54 today.

Her next skate routine will be to ‘MMMBop’

The question (asked by Associated Press writer Mary Campbell): If you could date one of the three young brothers in Hanson, which one would it be? The respondent: Olympic gold-medal-winner Tara Lipinski. Her answer: “That’s an unfair question.”

To be above criticism is to be in Nirvana

Courtney Love, who’s trying to suppress Nick Broomfield’s documentary “Kurt and Courtney,” has enraged writer Lynn Hirschberg. Hirschberg, who wrote a damning profile of Love in Vanity Fair magazine, claims she was “disinvited” to the MCA/Universal Records post-Grammy party. She blames Love, who she calls “a complete hypocrite.”

Bets are that dad’s initials are A.I.

“Yes, I’m pregnant,” said Jodie Foster, confirming to syndicated columnist Liz Smith on Tuesday what had been merely a rumor. “I couldn’t be happier,” the two-time Oscar winner said. “But no, I’m not going to discuss the father, the method or anything of that nature.”

Third, she’s trying to maintain what she calls a career Pamela Anderson Lee is fighting multiple battles. She’s proceeding with her divorce suit against husband Tommy Lee, whom she accuses of assaulting her. And she’s suing Internet Entertainment Group, trying to stop the company from selling two “stolen” tapes of her making love, one with Lee and another with Poison lead singer Bret Michaels.

And now for our obligatory Brit-royal item

“I’ve been going through a bad time, so I’ve put my nose in the food bag,” the Duchess of York told Good Housekeeping magazine. But at least she’s worked out an amicable relationship with former hubby, Prince Andrew. “If he has a girl over,” she said, “I move out for the night or go away for the weekend.”
