Donald McClellan Spokane

Graveside service for Donald G. McClellan, 79, will be at 9 a.m. today at Pines Cemetery. Thornhill Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. McClellan, who was born in Chatham, Ontario, died Wednesday.

He worked as an insurance salesman and was a 20-year Spokane resident.

Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Doreen; four sons, Doug McClellan of Spokane, Jack McClellan of Orofino, Idaho, Charlie McClellan of Fremont, Calif., and Dan McClellan of Anchorage, Alaska; two daughters, Marcia Rosemeier of Atlanta and Donna McClellan of Winston-Salem, N.C.; nine grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

Esther Humes Spokane

Service for Esther M. Humes, 93, will be at 12:30 p.m. today at Riplinger Funeral Home. Burial will follow at 2 p.m. at Zion Hills Cemetery in Clayton, Wash.

Mrs. Humes, a lifetime Spokane resident, died Wednesday.

She was a homemaker and was a member of First Assembly of God Church.

Her husband, Thomas Humes, died in 1993.

Survivors include a sister, Ruby Hanson of Spokane; and a brother, Oliver Olson of Spokane.

Harry Uber Ramona, Calif.

Memorial service for Harry B. Uber, 71, will be at 10 a.m. today at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Ramona. Bonham Brothers and Lee Mortuary in Ramona is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Uber, who was born in Kansas City, Kan., died Wednesday.

He served in the Marine Corps from 1951 to 1953 and owned and operated a hay and Grange store in San Diego.

Mr. Uber was a resident of Post Falls for many years before moving to Ramona nine years ago.

In Ramona, he worked as a real estate agent.

He was a member of the Elks Lodge of El Cajon, Calif., the Ramona Realtors Association and the Ramona Squares.

Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Earleen; three sons, Ken Uber of Carson City, Nev., Mike Uber of Spokane and Marty Uber of Deer Park; two daughters, Geil Lee of Post Falls and Aline Leslie of Deer Park; and eight grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Pamela ‘Pammie’ Carlson Spokane

Memorial service for Pamela “Pammie” Zelda Carlson, 57, will be at 4 p.m. today at Haven Homes. Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South is in charge of arrangements.

Miss Carlson, a former resident of Lakeland Village, died Sunday.

She moved to Haven Homes in Spokane in 1973.

Miss Carlson is survived by her legal guardian, Karina Derrick of Otis Orchards.

Yvonne Buechner Copeland, Idaho

Service for Yvonne Elaine Buechner, 57, will be at noon Monday at Bonners Ferry Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Copeland Cemetery.

Mrs. Buechner, who was born in St. Petersburg, Fla., died Wednesday.

She grew up and attended schools in Florida, South Carolina and California. She settled in Idaho in 1979. Mrs. Buechner moved to the Copeland area in 1980 and was a homemaker and farmer.

Survivors include her husband, Ray; six daughters, Dorothy Waddell and Becky Buechner, both of Post Falls, Nanette Baley of California, Tammy Waddell of Coeur d’Alene, Katie More of Spokane, and Nancy Kenp of Missoula; two sons, Ray Buechner of Spokane and Ronald Buechner of Bonners Ferry; two brothers, Leslie Woodworth of Louisiana and Daryl Woodworth of California; and 14 grandchildren.

Richard ‘Mike’ Fox Spokane

Private family service for Richard Michael “Mike” Fox, 45, will be held at a later date. Thornhill Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Fox, who was born in Spokane, died Sunday.

He worked as a machine operator.

Survivors include a daughter, Annie Fox of Spokane; his father, Donald Fox of Spokane; and two brothers, Thomas and Jerry Wayne, both of Spokane.

Magdalen Speltz Spokane

Vigil service for Magdalen C. Speltz, 89, is planned for 7 p.m. Sunday at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be at 9 a.m. Monday at St. Aloysius Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.

Mrs. Speltz, who was born in Rolling Stone, Minn., died Wednesday.

She moved to Spokane in 1950 and worked in food service at Holy Names Academy and Gonzaga University.

Mrs. Speltz was a member of St. Aloysius parish and St. Jude’s Guild.

Her husband, Walter Speltz, died in 1984.

She is survived by two sons, Carl Speltz of Spokane and Terry Speltz of Arlington, Wash.; a daughter, Susan Anselmo of Spokane; 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary Catholic School Foundation.

Daniel ‘Jack’ Hogan Vancouver, Wash.

Private memorial service for Daniel “Jack” Hogan, 79, was held. Mr. Hogan, who was born in Montana, died Wednesday.

He served in the Army during World War II and moved to Spokane in 1952.

Mr. Hogan was a mail carrier for the Postal Service and moved to Davenport, Wash., in 1977.

He moved to Vancouver in 1986.

Mr. Hogan was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1474 and the National Association of Letter Carriers.

Survivors include his wife, Lenore; three sons, Gary Hogan of Spokane, John Hogan of Lewisville, N.C., and Dennis Long of San Leandro, Calif.; three daughters, Teri Chase of Shelton, Wash., Vikki Stokes of Phoenix and Candice Chisholm of Portland; two sisters, Miriam Cox of Portland and Alberta Palmer of Renton, Wash.; 14 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Della Neyland Spokane

Memorial service for Della E. Neyland, 91, will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Liberty Lake Community Church. Private graveside service will be at Pines Cemetery. Thornhill Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Neyland, who was born in Seattle, died Monday.

In 1927, she married Homer Neyland.

In 1940, they purchased a large piece of property at Liberty Lake, where they built and operated Sandy Beach Resort. In 1961 they sold the resort to their children, who operated it until 1989.

Mrs. Neyland had been a member of Ramona Rebekah Lodge 238 since 1941, was a noble grand in 1946 and received the Declaration of Chivalry.

Mrs. Neyland was also a member of Liberty Lake Community Church, was a Girl Scout leader and was a charter member of the Beachcombers Garden Club of Liberty Lake.

Her husband died in 1971.

She is survived by three daughters, Mary Dolphin and Betty Trembly, both of Liberty Lake, and Carole Richardson of Quincy, Wash.; a sister, Patricia Lee of Seattle; seven grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, four foster great-grandchildren and one foster great-great-grandchild.

May Garner Chewelah, Wash.

Service for May Elizabeth Garner, 81, will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Schanzenbach Funeral Home in Chewelah. Burial will follow at 2:30 p.m. at Evergreen Cemetery in Post Falls.

Mrs. Garner, who was born in Lovilla, Iowa, died Wednesday.

She and her husband, Fay, lived in Post Falls for several years before moving to Chewelah eight years ago.

She was a homemaker and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Chewelah.

Survivors include her husband; a son, Stephen Garner of Blue Creek, Wash.; a daughter, Mary Wiebe of Chewelah; a brother, Jack Hopkins of St. Petersburg, Fla.; four sisters, Mattie Mooney of Ottumwa, Iowa, Lucia Swaim of Drakesville, Iowa, Katie Eakins of Buckeye, Ariz., and Bettijane Mahoney of San Antonio; 11 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Patricia Schutz Spokane

Service for Patricia M. Schutz, 66, will be at noon Monday at Thornhill Valley Funeral Home.

Mrs. Schutz, a lifetime Spokane resident, died Monday.

She graduated from Marycliff High School and then owned and operated the Chattaroy Hills Restaurant and Lounge.

Mrs. Schutz was a member of Newport Eagles Lodge 3443, the Valley Elks Lodge, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1435 and the Spokane Moose Lodge.

Survivors include two sons, David Oglesbee of Greenacres and Alan Oglesbee of Post Falls; a sister, Mary Ellen Gertsch of Newport, Wash.; a brother, James Flanigan of Oldtown, Idaho; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Royal Cronquist Greenacres

Private service for Royal D. Cronquist, 71, will be held at a later date. Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Cronquist, who was born in Haxtun, Colo., died Tuesday.

He graduated from high school in Colorado and served in the Marines during World War II. He served in the Navy during the Korean War.

In 1952 he married Darlene McCray in Las Vegas.

Mr. Cronquist was a minister with Counsil from Greenacres.

He was an 18-year resident of Greenacres.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Denise Brosnan of Spokane; two sons, Vaughn Cronquist of Snohomish, Wash., and Michael Cronquist of Greenacres; a sister, Evelyn Arnett of Fresno, Calif.; and eight grandchildren.

Mary Ellen Ruff Spokane

Graveside service for Mary Ellen Ruff, 81, was Thursday at Greenwood Memorial Terrace.

Mrs. Ruff, who was born in Colville, Wash., died Feb. 27.

She graduated from high school in Spokane and then from the Spokane Community College through the St. Luke’s Nursing Program as a licensed practical nurse.

Mrs. Ruff worked for Suburban Nursing Home in Spokane for eight years.

She lived in Fairfield for 12 years before returning to Spokane in 1991.

Survivors include two daughters, Colleen Young of Everett and Patricia Engle of Spokane; a son, Victor Swanby of Spokane; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Spokane or the Make A Wish Foundation.

Albert Martello Spokane

No service will be held for Albert B. Martello, 64, at his request. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

A lifetime resident of Spokane, Mr. Martello died Wednesday.

He served in the Navy during the Korean War and then worked for the city of Spokane Water Department for 33 years.

Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Marsha; two sons, Albert Martello Jr. of Everett and Robert Martello of Seabeck, Wash.; his mother, Virginia Martello of Spokane; two brothers, Ralph and Edward Martello, both of Spokane; a sister, Stella of Spokane; and three grandchildren.

David Coulter Spokane

No service will be held for David H. Coulter, 70, at his request. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Coulter, who died Thursday, was born in Des Moines, Iowa.

He operated a photography business and moved to Spokane from Des Moines 15 years ago.

Mr. Coulter was a Navy veteran.

Survivors include two sons, Jerry Coulter of Spokane and Rick Coulter of Ventura, Calif.; three daughters, Pam McKnelly and Cindy Rafford, both of Spokane, and Nancy Clauson of Des Moines; 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Rosa Goodell St. John, Wash.

Family memorial service for Rosa Lee Goodell, 60, will be held at a later date. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Goodell, who was born in Yakima, died Feb. 28.

She graduated from Spangle High School and was a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband, Alan; her mother, Elsie Wittwer of Spangle; a brother, Edward Wittwer of California; and two sisters, Mary Ann Curtis of North Carolina and Lois Rice of Wasilla, Alaska.

Mitchell Smith Spokane

No service will be held for Mitchell Harry Smith. Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Smith, 48, died Wednesday.

He was born in Moscow, Idaho, and served in the Army during the Vietnam War.

Mr. Smith was a self-employed maintenance contractor.

He was a 35-year resident of Spokane and a member of the Disabled American Veterans.

He is survived by a son, Shane Smith of Spokane; and a brother.
