Warden Ousts Colfax

Colfax (16-10) had four chances to tie the game in the final 26 seconds, but the Bulldogs came up short as Warden (15-11) escaped with a 48-45 victory Friday in a state Class 1A girls loser-out game in the Tacoma Dome.
Colfax led 30-22 at halftime, but mustered only 15 points in the second half.
Heather Ortiz scored 17 points and grabbed 13 rebounds to spark the Cougars. Sophomore point guard Lyndsey Brandt had a well-rounded game for Warden with 12 points, 12 rebounds, five blocks, four assists and three steals. Shelly Jeske added nine points and 11 rebounds.
Laura Widman led Colfax with 17 points and 14 rebounds, and Jessica Rohner added 16 points and seven rebounds.
Warden will play Liberty Bell today at 12:30 p.m. for fourth place.

The Warriors jumped to a 24-13 halftime lead and held on. Jake Fletcher scored 16 points for Seattle Christian.
Clint Higginbotham led the losers with 16 points.
Seattle Christian will play Chelan in the championship game today at 8 p.m.

LaCenter (20-6) entered the tournament having won the past two state titles. The Wildcats defeated Cashmere 71-66 in the 1997 championship game.
LaCenter’s Dustin VanWeerdhuizen, a 6-foot-6 senior guard, scored 20 points to set a career tournament scoring record. He finished with 252 career points, beating the 248 points scored by Colfax’s Jon Kincaid 1990-93.
Cashmere will play Cle Elum at 12:30 p.m. today for fourth place.
