Coaches resign
A pair of North Idaho girls basketball coaches have resigned.
Sandpoint High coach Duane Ward and St. Maries’ Todd Gilkey submitted their resignations last week after three-year stints.
Gilkey plans to continue to be a varsity assistant and junior varsity coach for St. Maries volleyball coach Mitch Santos.
“I felt at this time in my life that the best for me professionally and personally was to concentrate on getting a master’s degree,” Gilkey said.
Ward, 54, coached Sandpoint to runner-up in the State A-1 tournament in 1995-96 when the Alli Nieman-led Bulldogs finished 20-4. He was the head boys coach during two different terms - 1968-71 and 1985-91.
