Williams To Receive Award

Former North Idaho College men’s basketball coach Rolly Williams is the recipient of the 1997 Gar Anderson Memorial Award.

The award is named in honor of Anderson, who was an avid North Idaho sportsman and outdoorsman.

Williams will be honored at the North Idaho Sports Banquet on March 21 at the Coeur d’Alene Inn.

Williams, a lifelong resident of North Idaho, taught physical education courses at NIC in addition to coaching and serving as athletic director. He is a member of the NJCAA Hall of Fame and Idaho Hall of Fame.

College baseball

Ricks College used a five-run, fourth inning to defeat CC Spokane 10-6 in the Holiday Inn Invitational Friday.

Brian Hall of Ricks hit a two-run double in the fifth and Derek Dalling followed with a three-run homer.

The Sasquatch’s Greg Matthews drove in four runs, hitting a three-run homer in the eighth and a RBI double in the ninth.

College softball

Puget Sound downed Whitworth in both games of a doubleheader. The visting Loggers used three runs in the top of the eighth inning to win the first game 4-1. In the second game the Loggers jumped out to a 10-0 lead after three innings. The Pirates came back with five runs in the fourth and fifth, but UPS held on for the win 10-5.

High school soccer

Wenatchee’s Tyson McInnis scored a goal and an assist to lead the Panthers past host Coeur d’Alene 4-0. CdA’s Barrett Schwerin saved eight shots on goal.
