Antelope Slaughtered

Staff And Wire Reports

Road kill

A motorist recently killed 15 antelope in one collision on a slick, foggy road in North Dakota.

Steven Hoffer, 40, of Watford City, said he’s lucky to have escaped injury.

“They were running down the road in the opposite direction I was,” Hoffer said. “I was in the fog, and they were on the shoulder of the road on my side. When one turned into me, they all followed the same direction,” he said. “There was no way they could get off the road - there were steep ditches on both sides.”

North Dakota Game and Fish Department officials determined the antelope were being chased by coyotes and were on the road because of heavy snow in the area.

“I felt kind of bad,” Houffer said, and he wasn’t referring to the smashed front of his pickup. “They didn’t have (an antelope) season last year because of the lack of animals, and here I take out 15.” , DataTimes
