Central Valley Claims Lewiston Team Titles
Central Valley opened its track and field season by sweeping the team titles at Saturday’s Lewiston Invitational.
CV’s boys scored well in the relays and field events. The Bears won the 800- and 1,600-meter relays and placed second in the 400 relay. Individual winners were Preston Crossman, shot put, 50 feet, 1/2 inch; Cameron Summers, triple jump, 39-9; and Brandon Boge, discus, 153-2-1/2.
The Bears girls won the 400 and 1,600 relays, and received sprint wins from Leslie Meredith, 100, 12.56 seconds; and Wendy Wagar, 800, 2:28.0. CV also picked up 28 points for second- and third-place efforts in the shot put and triple jump.
Gonzaga Prep athletes swept the 1,600 and 3,200. Jim Rucker won in 4:32.51 and 9:42, Carly Barnes in 5:31.18 and 11:52.73.
Boys soccer
Jay Recchia scored 4 minutes apart in the first half, and the goals held up in Deer Park’s 2-1 win at Chewelah in the Great Northern League.
Recchia’s first goal came after a throw-in by Lucas Langben. Recchia’s second goal, from 13 yards out, was assisted by Spencer Nedved’s free kick.
Also in the GNL, Micah Throop’s penalty kick midway through the second half rallied Colville to a 3-2 win at Medical Lake (0-2).
The penalty kick was set up when ML was whistled for a push in the goal box on a corner kick. The Cardinals’ Marshall Wilson scored twice.
