‘Jerry Springer’ Show Tops ‘Oprah’ Again

New York Daily News

Make it three in a row for “The Jerry Springer Show.”

According to Nielsen, Springer’s often salacious and always sensational fightfest was the most-watched daytime talk show in the country in the most recent tally, the week ending March 8. It’s the third straight week, in terms of total viewers, that “Springer” has topped Oprah Winfrey’s longtime daytime champ, “Oprah.”

“I think we’ve been through a lot,” said ‘Springer’ executive producer Richard Dominick. “We’ve been called everything under the sun. … We stayed our ground and took the beatings, and, to quote Elton John, ‘I’m still standing.”’

For the week of March 8, “Springer” averaged 10,280,000 viewers to “Oprah’s” 9,080,000. Compared to the previous week, “Springer” was down about 900,000 viewers, while “Oprah” was up about the same number.

While “Springer” drew more viewers, the two shows actually tied in household ratings for the week, with matching 7.8 ratings (percentage of the 98 million TV homes).
